Very simply: I was sick of all my friends constantly asking me for tips on picking out their produce, so I decided to put all of my (admittedly quite deep) knowledge on the topic into one handy place. 🤓 All the details you need for nearly 100 different types of produce, from fruits to vegetables to herbs 🤳 Mobile-first design, for easy use at the grocery store 🖤 Dark mode 🔎 Search by PLU number functionality from the landing page (thats the 4 or 5 digit code you’ll often see in grocery stores, especially on stickers) 😇 Callouts to produce that are part of the “Dirty Dozen”, letting you know which items are best to buy organic ‼️ Some useful storage and cleaning tips 🤔 There are a few alternative names built in as well, so if you might call it something else — like rapini instead of broccoli rabe — you’ll still be safe via the search function Whats Next? 📱Full PWA capabilities coming very soon 😋 More content on more types of produce! 🍄 Tips for choosing all your favorite fungi 🌶 More spicy content for all your favorite capsicums 📖 Pages for more specialty ingredients, like asian veggies — and they’ll be the first ones I actually need to research! 💥 Some more very fun functionalities are in the pipeline, so stay tuned Shoutout to @bbbear for her wonderful illustrations that are very central to the design (and ultimately come from the larger Open Farm project) as well as @warpling for turning me on to them (and ultimately sparking this entire idea!) with his Every Plant, Ever sticker pack for iMessage. So now I need you all to let me know what produce I’ve missed — and if there are any other tips that I should feature here too! PS: before you say it, I know — tomatoes and avocado are both actually fruits. 🙄
