When Heimdall first launched, it was an “OpenAI GPT” that users accessed through ChatGPT. We chose this approach for its $0 inference cost, user familiarity, and the perceived ease + speed of development.
However, in hindsight, this proved to be a mistake, plagued by issues like constant end-user approval prompts, a cumbersome OAuth experience (especially on mobile), unreliable desktop link generation, and an overall poor user experience.
As a result, we completely rebuilt Heimdall as version 2.0 using Vercel’s AI SDK and GPT-4o-mini, and it’s much improved. You no longer need a ChatGPT account to get started, there’s no more dealing with repeated confirmation prompts, broken links, or mobile sign-in issues. The integration with the Gandalf SDK, which powers data retrieval from services like Amazon and Instacart, is now even smoother.
Heimdall 2.0 can answer questions like:
• How much have I spent on a specific service or category?
• What categories of products do I buy the most on Amazon or Instacart?
• How does my spending compare this year to last year?
• How often do I use services like Uber or Booking?
• Can you show me a pie chart or bar chart of my spending in different categories?
• How do my spending habits differ between services?
• Can you provide insights or recommendations based on my spending data?
Try it out! Let us know what you think.
Congrats on the launch of Heimdall 2.0! How does this version improve threat detection capabilities compared to the previous one? Does it offer enhanced integration with existing security infrastructure?
Congrats on the launch of Heimdall 2.0, @timigod! It's impressive to see how you've pivoted and addressed user experience concerns. The integration with Vercel’s AI SDK and Gandalf SDK sounds like a game changer for analyzing spending habits. I'm looking forward to utilizing those insights and visualizations for better budgeting. This definitely makes managing expenses on platforms like Amazon and Uber so much easier! Upvoted!
Hey Timi,
How does Heimdall handle data privacy and security, especially when dealing with sensitive financial information from multiple services?
Congrats on the launch!
@kyrylosilin Thank you!
Heimdall uses Gandalf SDK to securely request user data. It protects privacy in the following ways:
1. Minimal Data Collection: Gandalf only collects the essential information required for service provision, such as names and email addresses. No additional personally identifiable information (PII) is collected unless explicitly allowed by the end user.
2. User Consent and Control: Gandalf ensures that users have full control over their data. Users must provide explicit consent before any data is collected, and they have the ability to manage or delete their data at any time through the Gandalf standalone application.
3. Data Security: Gandalf employs industry-standard encryption to protect data both during transmission and storage. Sensitive credentials like passwords are never transmitted or stored; all authentication processes are handled on the client side.
4. International Data Transfers: Gandalf complies with international data protection regulations, ensuring that data is protected regardless of where it is processed or stored.

It's great to see a tool that offers a full view of spending by combining data from different sources. I hope you have some more future plans to add features for budgeting or financial goals.
This is a really interesting update! The new Heimdall sounds super useful for tracking spending without all the previous hassle. I like how it now integrates better with services like Amazon and Instacart. A question tho, does it support different currencies? Would be handy for international users. Congrats on the launch @timigod!
@charlotteelisesinclair thanks!
Yes it does support different currencies - Heimdall will automatically detect which currency you use the most on every service and display your results as such.
This tool seems really handy For tracking spending across various services this tool really handy. I’m interested in how you ensure privacy and protect user data, especially with connections to platforms like Amazon and Uber.
Looks interesting but honestly, this AI tracking spend isn't exactly groundbreaking, there are already tools like Mint and Personal Capital doing similar things for years, what sets this apart? Also, have you thought about integrating features that promote sustainable spending habits or maybe partnerships with eco-friendly brands to make it more impactful, just curious
Well hey there, interesting update for sure, I like the idea of tracking spend but still wondering about its accuracy especially with different currencies involved, have you guys thought about adding a feature for setting budget limits and alerts because I feel it could really help people trying to save money, just a suggestion but worth thinking about
Alex here, this product got some potential but it feels a bit invasive like do we really need another tracker for our spending habits what about privacy features or maybe more focus on budgeting and not just tracking this could use some more thought
Not sure if I'm ready to trust an AI with my spending data, how do you ensure privacy especially with all these platforms Amazon, Uber, Instacart etc, maybe adding more transparent privacy policies could help 👍

So you're telling me this new app is supposed to help me figure out my spending habits, but honestly do we really need another tool for that, seems like just another way to complicate simple budgeting, people should learn to manage their spending with discipline rather than relying on tech solutions all the time
