@bentossell Sure thing :)
"Happier" also provides a great introduction to positive psychology.
The book discusses what happiness really is and gives tips on how we can achieve it.
The author explains four different archetypes:
1. "Rat racers" - People who work hard to be happy in the future, they don't mind working hard and compromising the present as they expect to achieve a better future.
2. Hedonists - People who don't mind too much about the future, but live in the now and enjoy the small pleasures without thinking so much about the consequences it has on the future.
3. Nihilists - People who doesn't think that the future will bring anything exciting and who have a difficult time finding a purpose with the life.
4. "Happy people" - And lastly the people who have a goal and clear purpose with life and still enjoy the pleasures they come by every day.
This is just my memory of it. The author talks about how we can all get to be as the last mentioned archetype.
It is about finding the overlap between what gives us pleasure, meaning and what our strengths is and then set goals within this overlap.
Furthermore, he talks about meditation and some other interesting stuff.
Tal Ben-Shahar is a great author but his positive psychology course at Harvard is better than any of his books. Definitely worth checking out (on Youtube)
