Sync and push conversations from a Slack community into a branded community site, fully searchable by customers and search engines. Build a knowledgebase of Slack discussions and drive new organic traffic with SEO-enabled discovery.
Hey Product Hunt peeps!
Slack is great for building customer communities – especially if your community members already use work to communicate for work.
The problem is that Slack isn't built for communities, and means there are a few disadvantages when building a community with Slack:
1️⃣ Messages aren't saved past 90 days on Slack's free plan – this means valuable community knowledge, support answers, and customer discussions are lost forever. Sure you could upgrade to a paid plan, but Slack's pricing is prohibitively expensive for large communities.
2️⃣ Slack conversations aren't public or discoverable by Google – your customers can't self-serve previously answered questions, or discover your community through the user-generated content created in your community.
So we've built an integration with Slack to turn your Slack community into a discoverable site.
With Hall, you can transform your community Slack conversations into a branded community site, fully searchable by customers and search engines.
Just connect Slack, and start syncing your conversations. You can also manually push interesting conversations to your community site.
Best of all, it's entirely free. Sign up today and connect your Slack workspace to Hall in just a few minutes.
@memphys_sk Specific channels can be selected to sync with Hall, and only channels that are available to all users in a Slack workspace. Slack Admins can also make it clear that messages will be synced in the description for a channel, or if folks desire more explicit messaging we might extending our Slack bot to send an ephemeral message once a message is synced.
We're considering adding support for Discord in the future.
It's a good idea for sure. The fact that it's free is absolutely fantastic, but how will you sustain that and keep interest in it as an organization?
So, presumably, we can use our own CNAME domain and brand and all?
It's critical to understand the longevity of this. If people or organizations choose to use it and later you abandon it, this will affect not just the organizations but whole communities and, 'super importantly,' the knowledge acquired. What are your thoughts on this and what's your plan on backing up the knowledge?
Overall, well done, and I wish you well. Give me a shout if you'd like to chat, as I've been researching community tech for many years :)
@saascommunities Good questions Jeremy!
Our plan is to keep our Slack integration free, and use this as a way to land customers who could potentially be good fits for expanding into our broader paid community platform which includes specifically designed features for use cases like community support, product ideation, publishing content, customer education, etc.
You can spin up a community site on .hall.community domain. Custom domains / CNAMEs are only supported on our paid plan at the moment. Branding, customization, and theming is supported for free though.
Totally hear the concern on longevity. This isn't some throwaway side-project for us, we're a venture-backed company with the runway to continue building out our product vision. For backup and export, we don't support a self-serve export from our platform as of yet (we will in the future), but this is something we can do manually for any customer upon request.
Hey Kai,
This is a fantastic solution for making Slack communities more accessible and valuable. The SEO optimization is a game-changer. How easy is it to set up and start syncing conversations?
Slack is great for building customer communities. It is hoped that users can be stratified and screened to maintain the high-quality operation of the communtity
This could be great for community knowledge preservation. How does Hall handle private or sensitive information in Slack conversations? Congratulations on the launch, Kai! It's an innovative approach to making Slack communities more discoverable.
@kyrylosilin Specific channels can be selected to sync with Hall, and only channels that are available to all users in a Slack workspace. Any messages that are deleted in Slack are also automatically removed from the Hall community site.
Thanks for your comment!
Congrats on the launch! I'm curious about the customization options available for the branded community site. Can users personalize the design and layout to align with their brand identity?
This is quite a cool novel idea! I think as long as folks joining the Slack community understand it's an open community and their content has a chance of being featured in a community site, this is a brilliant idea! Free SEO, turn your Slack into a support site generator, and you get to save your content.
Congrats on the launch @kaiforsyth - this is what PH is all about!
