Half Lemons is a clever iOS app that does the thing youβve always wanted a recipe app to do -- serve up recipe ideas using the ingredients you have at home.
Supercharge your cooking by unlocking the full potential of your ingredients.
Congrats on launching! Plans to account for substitutions? A recipe might call for chard, but any hearty green would work.. same with proteins etc
Feedback: when Iβve picked whatβs in my kitchen (this is quick which is great) Iβm finding its a bit cumbersome to scroll through dozens of recipes that take up nearly the full screen each. This will be exacerbated as the recipe collection grows. Would be great to have a more in depth browse experience.
Looking forward to see this develop!
@kgdavis Thank you for the kind words, and the product feedback!
The app currently suggests recipes that you have all the ingredients for EXCEPT one. We call them 'bonus recipes', and we designed the feature with substitutions in mind.
Regarding your feedback on recipe image size. Can I ask - what iPhone model do you have?
@jc_haro Android is on the roadmap. We built it for iOS because that's the phones we have :) We're waiting for a few more learnings on iOS and will start working on Android.
Downloaded. Excellent excellent app. Definitely the best I've tried. Some things:
In Recipes - half of the recipes suggested I would define as snacks (kale crisps) or part of a meal (Honey roasted carrot). The other half I would class as a meal (a pasta with a sauce, or a shepherds pie). It would be excellent if these were split up. That way, if I have a load of random stuff I can create my own meal from snacks/parts of a meal, or if I just want a dinner i could look at the meals. Hope that makes sense.
Pantry - there seems to be a few fish that haven't made the list, so adding them would be good.
Might have some more thoughts in the next few days, but this is excellent!
@rdlou Thank you for the kind words! We are thrilled to hear you find Half Lemons the BEST in our category :) It means a lot to us.
I hear you loud & clear that you'd like a way to filter recipes. We love doing things that make our users happy. So keep using the app, and don't be surprised to find more filters added soon! ;)
We added the most common types of fish. But we can always add more. What others would you like to see on the list?
This is great feedback! Feel free to share any more ideas you have with me @ theo@halflemons dot com
@przemyslaw_rudnik1 Yes! I've always wondered why a product like this didn't already exist! After years of waiting, I got fed up and built it myself! Hope you like it.
@theogoodman this is my most common way of deciding what to eat/cook, and it reduces the waste as well because more ingredients being used rather than waiting for their "moment" and overdue in the meantime.
Hey Product Hunt!
We're super excited to unveil the Half Lemons app! A new iOS app that serves up curated recipes using the ingredients you already have on hand.
π¨βπ³ Why we built it?
My co-founder and I built Half Lemons because we got tired of cooking the same meals over and over. We love to cook! But we're not pros. We just wanted an easy way to experiment with new meals using the foods we buy. We tried out some other products that claim to do something similar. Let's just say we weren't impressed π§π€·ββοΈ
β How it works.
1. Take a digital inventory of your kitchen. It takes 60 seconds.
2. Then browse from our huge collection of curated recipes. Every recipe you see in the app is one you know you can make.
3. Nom nom
β¨ What makes us different.
Recipes you actually want to make. Human curation makes a big difference. Yes, a human picked Every. Single. Recipe.
Great design is only the beginning.
ππ± How you can get started:
Simply visit the App Store, or check out our website www.halflemons.com. The app is FREE, and available on iOS.
If you have any questions about the product, feel free to shout them out and my co-founder @julie_dillemann or I will get back to you!
I always wonder why there wasn't any app like this already. It would be great if it also prevents you to waste food or if it automatically create real supermarkets lists of the products you've finished with each recipe.
@laura_cabello we couldn't agree more! eventually we got tired of waiting, and decided to build it ourselves.
you hit the nail on the head with your grocery list idea. we reviewed product designs for this feature just yesterday! definitely coming soon ;)
@ayberkbozkus thanks for the good wishes! we hand-pick each and every recipe that appears in the app. the result is recipes you actually want to make! users tell us the difference is dramatic :-)
@vasgo thank you! Right now we have about 1,500 recipes on the app! We're currently working on a feature where we will be able to add new recipes weekly/monthly.
