Just tried it to book a flight and it's actually less useful than it was before. Mainly, it doesn't show you other nearby airports options for the return leg of a roundtrip flight anymore (Kayak's 'hacked fares')... Some of us who will wander a metro area with multiple airports do like the option.

Wow, we're now adding and up voting Google products now? Sad.
Sam Ayres
@fbara What's sad is hating on devs that clearly put in a lot of hard work to make something cool and intuitive just because they work for a popular company.

@fbara Doesn't matter whether it's a big company, military, startup or just a small kid, if the product is good we should upvote it
Google Flights
@fbara Indeed it is really a awesome tool for finding flights, It is beautifully explained here https://ca-political.com/google-...

Google Flights is amazing! It replaced primarily Kayak and SkyScanner for me. The main reason I started using it is that when you click calendar view it is already pre-populated with lowest price each day, which lets you very quickly scan to the cheapest days to fly where you want to go. On Kayak for example, their month search requires you state how many nights (what if I'm flexible) and limits you to a 4 week window. Google's approach is much more powerful. The second reason I switched is the feature to set travel dates and then browse the world map for cheapest places to go on those dates. The third reason I switched is that Google Flights is easily the fastest flight search option. That said, the only thing new I notice is the material design (which looks great) - so I'm not sure if that alone calls for a re-Hunt.

Overall, I think Google does a remarkable job at representing a key user problem when researching flights -- users are often left to question, "Is this really the best deal? Can I do better than this price?"

I think those sentiments are representative of a lack of trust that exists between users and flight-booking / travel websites, and Google makes up for that because of (1) the brand and (2) the easy and straightforward UI.

There is still a need, though, for a different "version" of flight browsing, which has more to do with an exploratory "I-don't-know-where-to-go-or-when-yet" mentality, which is more aspirational than anything else. Additionally, it could do a little bit better with sharing data trends/flight insights (when to buy) at first glance instead of being 1-click away (less discoverable for a novice user).

With all the above said, this is my new go-to app for flights! šŸ˜…

Pros:

ā€¢ Fast

ā€¢ Trustworthy (more on this below)

ā€¢ Easy UI

Cons:

ā€¢ A little harder to do open-ended queries

ā€¢ Not as optimal for booking vacations (exploratory)

ā€¢ Flight insights are less discoverable

It is a dealbreaker for me this difference in price still inside Google Flights, if it was something like: the company changed the price and Google didn't notice yet would be fine but this ruins the experience of searching for a cheap flight.

Pros:

Simple and clean UI

Cons:

On multiple searches/flights it shows a price in the list but when you click it it shows another.

Anca Bundaru

it's faster than other flight search engines

Pros:

I like the look & feel, makes price comparison easy, no need to scroll below the fold to access the recommendations

Cons:

lack of promotions, deals, incentives

I wish I could perform advanced searches are in matrix.

Pros:

- fast

- powerful

- supports lots of companies

Cons:

- not powerful as matrix (owned by google)

I think the app is great for booking flights, I've used it about 10 times and everything has been ok

Pros:

Easy to use, provides offers from many companies, loyal to customers

Cons:

I'd like Google Flights offer more deals or discounts

Roman Petruchyk
Google flights might be good for cheap and low cost flights, but not for 1st or business class. Plus, it is not offering any discounts and promos as here for example https://luxflight.com/first-class. That is a huge difference, why you should use special website and not google.

Looks great at a glance, but upon closer inspection, it feels a bit overwhelming. How do you guide users to perform one specific task without distractions and intuitively?
Stewart Alexander

Clean, clear, and powerful - but it is not a one stop shop, could be if it interfaced with more sites ...

One of Google's "hidden" gems

Pros:

Clean interface, powerful search, great graphics

Cons:

Doesn't always find the cheapest fair, or the shortest

Stewart Alexander
Clean and clear interface with powerful search capabilities. However fairs are not always the cheapest or the shortest available

Does it only check directly with the airlines? No middleman's?
Ciprian Tomoiaga
@zappe I tried it yesterday and they check with middleman's too. They forwarded me to buy tickets from expedia

This tool will work worldwide, for example at Armenia?

Can we get a CHANGELOG for this release, please?
Product Pearson
It actually looks really good. I like the map view. It reminds me a bit of AirBnB when scrolling in and out of locations and the results of accommodation changes, but in this case it's all the different destinations you can fly to and the results on the left change on the fly as you scroll in and out. It works very well. I wonder, does Google earn revenue from this product?
Amin
@productpearson They do, a commission from airlines via an affiliation link
Glory35
I don't understand why people don't want to use cheap sites for ordering tickets https://kissandfly.ng/avia/direc... .. today everyone does this way. We know that this is the only chance for people to buy them on small salary. Do you agree with me?
Wadim Dominik Grasza
Watch out Skyscanner
Lee Qixian
@wadim_dominik_grasza My thoughts as soon as I went in and have a look. On the plus side google sometimes don't keep things forever, they experiment, play and then discard.
