Glide — AI editor for easier, collaborative technical design

Hi Product Hunt! We’re excited to introduce you to our design doc editor, Glide. Why design docs, you might be asking? Mainly because on complex software projects, technical design docs are a key communication tool between Product and Engineering. They define the scope of changes, give a rough sense of the effort required, and provide a platform for exchanging feedback. This work helps ensure all product goals are met and avoids wasted effort on approaches that don’t work or are more complex than expected. Unfortunately, producing these write-ups is manual and time-consuming, requiring switching between typing in Confluence, searching on GitHub, and drawing on a whiteboard. Even worse, updating these documents with the latest product thinking and code being written is so tedious that every organization we’ve talked to admits their designs are outdated before the feature is even shipped. But, you might be wondering, can’t we get around all this by telling GPT-4o to write the code? We started out building a product that does precisely this. It turns out that most people (including us) don’t write a complete description of the solution they want on the first pass. Without this “solution description” (basically a design doc), LLMs don’t do a good job. So, by getting good at making design docs, we’re laying the groundwork for the product's next iteration that handles end-to-end code generation. a copilot that helps leads and managers write design docs seems to be a must have. i think this is the only untouched area by automation and this can significantly save a lot of time for engineering leads. congrats on the launch @agentic

Seems like an important tool so devs can focus their efforts on critical thinking tasks. I'd be really interested in a side by side study - give two devs the same task and see how much faster and more thorough the Glide's dev work is! Congratulations on the launch Agentic Labs!

Glide is an elegant bridge between human and AI programming. I’m not going to trust AI to write and ship complex (multi-file, multi-system, full-project, architecture-level) code on its own until there is another huge leap forward, sorry not sorry… Glide keeps the developer in the driver’s seat and not only improves their speed, but also their thought process and their relationship to the code base and product they are working on. I use Glide to spec issues more quickly and accurately to an extent where they can be performed without as much and back and forth. AI seems best when it's placed into applications where it can be leveraged by humans and Glide is an exemplary example of that.
