I really like the idea of having all the information about gifts in one place. When will the app send the reminder for the upcoming event, like 5 days in advance or 2 weeks in advance? I would prefer to use a web app instead of mobile app for trying this out. You can also do a PWA with push notifications for reminders.
@rajan_ramachandran Hi Rajan! Glad you like the idea. We start notification sequences 21 days prior so that users can plan ahead - at 21 days you can basically order from any retailer across the globe and have the gift arrive in time. As the date approaches, your options are reduced because most US retailers still take 5-10 business days to deliver a package.
We’ve definitely heard from a lot of the community that they prefer to checkout on web, so we recently accelerated development of our react next web project! We’re looking forward to launching that on PH as soon as it’s out of BETA.
Thank you for your input on pwa w/ push! Definitely something we’re considering on the web side. Currently we’re integrating the same notifications system as mobile & adding sms + email notifications
@johan_prevot_r Unfortunately no native android app yet, but we are working on a react web app that’s optimized for mobile and the beta will be available on android in just a few short weeks
Happy Holidays, Hunters!
I'm really excited to share the latest major release of Giftata with you, & we really appreciate the hunt @kevin
We started Giftata because we noticed how easy it is spend a lot of time searching for gifts yet be unable to find the 'right' gift. It’s hard to have confidence when all the blogs just promote affiliate products, retailers push sponsored listings & higher margin products, email newsletters feature paid promotions, & many searches return flat-out tacky gifts (see: White coffee mug that says """"It's my 30th Birthday"""" for 30th birthday gift). It’s exhausting to feel like there’s an endless amount of research that needs to be done just to find a meaningful gift. And it only gets harder the longer you look for unbiased recommendations. This isn’t how shopping for others should be.
When we launched the Giftata MVP earlier this year, we had a goal of making it as simple and accessible as possible to find great gifts. Our hopes were to go through YC or another major accelerator & then continue to build on the user experience from there.
Well, startups don't always take the path you hope for & we have instead been rejected over 100 times by major accelerators/incubators/VC firms - Yet our determination to solve this problem remains!
We understand many startups have attempted to build something similar in the past but ultimately haven't executed or weren't able to monetize effectively early on. I've spent countless hours researching these companies, interviewing our own users, and conducting testing. It's my hope that by keeping this line of communication open (you can schedule a video """"Founder Feedback Call"""" with me directly via our app), we'll be able to continue improving and will build a product that is truly life-giving.
We have made significant progress since our MVP & Giftata 2 is now available on iOS & iPadOS (MacOS + React Web app coming soon)
With Giftata, you'll find trending and popular products that are highly regarded by the community. Instead of finding lists with endless scrolling, you'll receive a handful of meaningful products based on the details that matter.
Giftata 2 has advanced features like a live chat gift concierge, instant gift recommendation tool, + omnichannel event notifications. We are going to be adding more soon and would love to hear what features you would appreciate.
We’ve experienced peace-of-mind since integrating Giftata into our own lives - we hope you’ll give it a try for yourself, and let us know what you think! We welcome all feedback & you can reach me directly at jake@giftata.com
[Exclusive for Product Hunters] You can choose between a free month of Giftata Pro, or 50% Off Giftata Pro Lifetime ($89.99 for PHers). Email info@giftata.com or text 213.533.9579 by 12/31/20 and we’ll reply with your redemption code as quickly as possible!
***Giftata respects your privacy and never sells user data to any third party***
@cliff_ho Thanks Clifford! We're in beta right now, feel free to email me & I can give you access if you want to test it! We plan to launch the web app publicly by December 15th
@abbas_sayed Great question! Unfortunately Facebook changed the way they work with developers after the Cambridge Analytica data scandal. All of the birthdays stored in your Facebook are considered third party data, of which facebook has determined users should not be able to share with developers.
The good news is, we integrate with Apple & Google calendars so you can quickly import all important dates stored there : )
@angel1337 Hi John, glad to hear you love the idea! Finding gifts is definitely stressful for most of us.
Just to confirm, you’re asking for access to test the web beta? To clarify, the iOS app is live in the App Store at gfta.app/iOS
@breanna_fowler1 Great question - No we don't have any ads & don't plan on integrating them! They take away from the user experience and hinder the performance.
@billy_song Hi Billy! We currently offer a subscription for premium membership + some of the products our users love earn us a commission through affiliate programs. Right now we’re earning commission on ~70% of the products in our app. We first recommend without bias, then seek to form partnerships after listing new products on our platform
@eleanna Thanks Eleanna! Great to hear you agree : ) We’ll feature any brand/retailer based on our editorial research + positive user input. We currently feature products from over 400 brands across more than 30 different retailers.
We try to recommend Amazon when possible because our users love their 2 day shipping, but we’re constantly adding additional retailers for the products that aren’t available on Amazon as well as any time a product is offered at a lower price than it’s available for on Amazon
@nicholas_shankland1 Thanks Nicholas! Appreciate it. It’s been quite a journey for sure, glad you like the UI!
Next we have our eyes on full gamification - a system with points & rewards for users that do all their gift shopping via Giftata
Remembering gifts for birthdays, holidays, baby showers, and weddings can be so stressful so I'm glad Giftata exists to help me organize my gift-giving. Is there a way for people to create wishlists?
@shchang86 Couldn’t agree with you more! Yes you can easily create wishlists under ‘Saved’, and you can even create & categorize lists for others if you want to start planning ahead for what you might get a specific person for Christmas.
@max_ball3 great! Looking forward to hearing your feedback. Feel free to reach out to me at jake @ giftata.com or 2135339579 to ask questions or give input. Thanks!
Hello, I am in need of this product to help me choose a birthday gift for my friend recently. Could you please give me a beta access?May I ask again, do you have a Chinese version?Because my English is not good !
@dj_bassbaus Thanks Michelle! We tailor recommendations based on gender, age, location, budget, your relationship, & their interests. We do this by researching trends, analyzing behavioral data within our app, surveying, public polling, and parsing third party data : )
Um, amazing. I think this is going to be a game changer this year—I’m horrible at thinking of gifts haha! Very excited! Will it make recommendations based on the occasion?
@jmeyoo Hi Jamie! We sure hope so : ) Yes our algorithm takes occasion into consideration when determining the appropriate gift, and it's always improving
@jessssssssssica Thanks Jessica! Happy that you’re as excited as we are. I would say the live chat gift concierge is most exciting! In our first launch users were able to submit a google form to our gift concierge, but now users can chat with our concierge instantly for gift recommendations : )
@novik_george Thanks George! Makes me happy to hear. I spent far too much time trying to figure out which animal (that naturally gives gifts) would resonate best.
I ultimately decided on the penguin and wanted to blend a kind of standard illustration w/ kawaii
