Would You Choose an AI Voice Over a Human? I Just Might…
I thought I'd get used to it, but I still hate talking to chatbots, esp ones I know that just spit up information they can find from a database of help articles. And even more so, when they don't actually help me answer the specific question I have after reframing my Q several times.
So when all these AI voice assistant products launched, claiming to take over sales and customer service, I had my reservations. I was like OK, yea, I can see it's headed in the right direction, but would I WANT to talk to one over a human being, even if it meant no wait? Nope.
Until today...@Sesame just launched their Conversational Speech Model (CSM). I didn't expect Maya or Miles to be so natural. It's really sensitive so picks up a lot of external noise which kind of distracts them, but overall, their ability to mimic the intonations of a REAL conversation with pauses and jokes, blew me away.
I actually felt they were really listening to me and asking me follow up questions to get me talking more. This demo really makes me believe that the future where I choose to chat with an AI voice bot (vs waiting for a human being) is closer than I thought.
Try out their demo and chime in below - Could you see yourself choosing to talk to Maya/Miles?!?

Awesome demo. It feels like they did some cool stuff around making a voice sound less "perfect" which makes it sound more human. They might also start sending pieces of our audio before we stop talking so the robot can answer in a natural sounding timeline. The earlier voice chat demos had that awkward pause after we stopped talking that gave them away. Imagine this in a few years!
