Who is behind the launches of OpenAI/Google/Anthropic?

4
Every week, we see new updates from these big AI companies launching on Product Hunt. But who is actually behind these launches? I've never seen these companies put any effort into promoting them. They always have a hunter, but they never promote on social media or make any launch efforts. Can anyone just post their updates as launches?

Hi Alex, you might have noticed me and other repeat hunters posting about Google, OpenAI, Microsoft, Meta, etc. Sometimes these hunts are requested or seen in the news or known internally through their teams. Example, Reddit has a special database of people who they inform when a new update is released for the community. I am on it. A Reddit employee added me. Sometimes after hunting if we are in touch, we inform the team before or after the hunt to engage in comments. You may notice some companies like Meta, Flipboard, Opera and many others actively engage and seek feedback from the PH community. Another source hunters rely on is news about product updates. I am sure it helps Product Hunt to continue to be a platform that features all the latest and greatest tech innovations. When PH started, it didn't have Makers posting their own updates, there were Hunters who posted products that they found interesting. Hence the name product "hunt"? :)

@rohanrecommends Hi Rohan! Clear. That explains things. I've often seen you or other hunters posting similar updates about a major company. Is it possible for me (or somyone else) to post a product from OpenAI, for example (or any other company), or would that be an issue for 1) the company itself, and 2) the Product Hunt platform? I'm just curious, because everyone sees the announcements on Twitter/official pages and can easily take and post the link to the product. But is that okay? The same applies to any tool we find on the internet—can anyone post something they come across on Twitter/Reddit as a cool tool? It’s more like you being a hunter and mentioning the maker who created the product, even if the maker isn’t aware that their product has been launched on Product Hunt.

@rohanrecommends @byalexai This is interesting topic and was also curious about that. I think that it would be beneficial for big companies to have something like "angel hunters" that inform about updates on the Product Hunt – at least to have closer connections with the Product Hunt community. :)

Great question! Big AI companies don’t rely on traditional launch strategies here because their brand already carries weight. The community and hunters drive visibility for them, so they don’t need heavy promotion. Smaller teams, on the other hand, have to hustle to get noticed.
