Customization is typically for large enterprise clients and requires separate deployment. Simpler solutions are usually used for SaaS systems, and it's not recommended to start with customization.
Simplicity wins out for me. The user experience is key and less is usually more. Customization has its place for power users but a clean, intuitive interface is most important. Keep it simple!
