What questions do you have about A.I. that you're too embarrassed to ask?
Hi all. Sarah here, Head of Content @ Product Hunt. I'm starting up a new article series in our AI newsletter, Deeper Learning, called Ask Kitty. It's a place where you can ask the questions you've been wondering about A.I. but have been too shy to ask.
Why? One thing I've learned about A.I. is that a lot of people in tech assume you know a lot of things, and very few people actually know the things (or know them in-depth enough to explain them simply). Sometimes this dynamic prevents us from asking questions. And asking questions is one of the best ways to reduce our knowledge gap.
And yes, you could ask ChatGPT, but based on my experience you're unlikely to get the full context you need. Not only will I work to answer your questions, I'll work to find the right people to help me answer them! So ask away!

I want to ask why only OpenAI is being capable of building ai at that fast pace? Do they have some special LLM's that have set their path.

This is such a wonderful initiative! I've always been curious about how AI models like ChatGPT understand and generate human-like text. Could you explain in simple terms how these models learn language and how they decide what to say next? Thanks for creating a space where we can ask these kinds of questions!
Honestly, I still wonder if AI will ever truly understand humans.
Right now, it feels more like an advanced tool that gives us the most likely response (based on the patterns) rather than actually grasping the meaning behind our words.
Can AI ever move beyond just mimicking human conversation and actually 'get' us? That's something I keep thinking about.

Can AI lie or deceive people?
No question about AI is too trivial or embarrassing, as every inquiry helps us all understand this complex field better. Sarah, what's on your mind?
I'm really curious about how A.I. can understand and generate human-like text. Is it actually "reading" or more like pattern matching on a massive scale?
@zijian That's actually a great question. One of my buddies who works at OpenAI gave me an extremely simplified version of how the algorithm works. The algorithm is pretty simple, the input = 8 words, and the output = the next 8 predicted words. So you just feed it enough text until it learns how to predict output from given input.
Adding to @sarah_wright5, If you rely solely on general-purpose large language models like ChatGPT and Gemini to research unfamiliar topics, you might receive misleading information presented in a very convincing manner.
It's common due to hallucination in these models. Therefore, it's important to double-check and confirm your findings before using them.
However, if you are already familiar with those topics but need structured information, then these general-purpose LLMs are great.
If AI surpasses human intelligence in every measurable way, what does it mean to be "intelligent"?
The funniest thing is how fast everyone has become an AI expert. When the real AI experts are the ones who admit that they don't actually understand how it works. 🙂

AI can be a maze of jargon and complex concepts. Having a judgment-free zone to ask those "silly" questions is exactly what we need.
Can't wait to see what burning questions the community has been holding back.
Not embrassing, but I am genuinely curious about the use of machine learning (aka A.I) in the HR market.
Right now the Jobs market is seemingly awful. World-wide as applicants are using LLMs to write their cover letters and 'optimize' their resumes to get past automate applicant sorting systems, while employers are employing the use of LLMs and 'machine learning' in their process of reviewing these resumes and 'qualifying' candidates, while at the same time cutting jobs with the expectation of increases as the current employees who make it are expected to use "A.I" to boost productivity.
At this point it is computers and talking to computers about jobs without humans actually meeting... so, and excuse my language here, but what the fuck are we doing here? It's a robotic process on both sides resulting in a race to the bottom.
So, the question: Is this actually a productive use of this technology? Where does this go from here? Progress for the sake of 'progress' in this context is making the world worse, not better.
@joseph_natoli This is a good question. I'd love to talk to some actual HR professionals using AI and see their honest accounts on it. As a content creator, I see AI's limitations, but its hard to see them across other professions. Will look into this.
What do you think it will be the hybrid working scenario for designers, marketeers and developers when AI starts doing >50% of their work in 5years?
I'm curious to ask and want to know profound info...Will AI really take away our jobs in the future?
