What have you found to be a silent productivity killer ?

Sometimes the tasks that take up your time are very evident. But, some things turn out to be small leaks in productivity that you barely notice, while they actually end up accumulating into a substantial loss overall. Have you found any such productivity leaks in your routine? How did you find it and how has resolving it helped you ?

Hey another Vivek! This is a great question - I believe productivity dies by a thousand cuts - 1. Notifications from slack and fomo making me check it regularly 2. Muscle memory making me open twitter 3. Muscle memory making me open messaging apps on phone when I have a spare moment 4. Forgetting to eat/drink which affects memory levels 5. Lack of sleep I found these by observing my own behavior closely and also talking to a lot of other people, understanding their behaviors and pattern matching it with my own behaviors. Resolving these issues helps me get more done in less and more importantly I have more energy reserved at the end of the day!

@vr3690 @notanothervivek 100% agree on notifications. In our team we have it as a mandatory onboarding rule to immediately turn off all Slack/Notion notifications except for direct mentions.

Hi! This is actually a very important question. I began to pay attention to this when I stopped having time to do the planned things, but at the same time I was constantly busy. Plus, I got tired all the time. Then I started tracking my day. And this is what I noted: 1) A large number of clarifying questions about the work. I stopped responding to every notification in Telegram with the understanding that people can call on important issues. 2) A large number of tabs in the browser scatters my attention, and in finding the right tab, I dwell on what is interesting, and not on what is needed now. And i agree with @vr3690 about 4 and 5 points, this is really very important and worth remembering.

Vice versa one of my biggest productivity wins was to be rigorous about deep work zones. I dedicate at least 3 hours per day where I'm simply not reachable and plan ahead which kinds of tasks I want to tackle in those 3 hours. No notifications, no social media and most importantly - no meetings.
