Use technology to facilitate innovation. There are a number of tools and technologies that can be used to support innovation, such as idea management software, collaboration platforms, and prototyping tools.

First and foremost, you have to let your colleagues and employees understand and see the results of innovation in the final result of their projects. I believe that the creation and nurturing of a company culture that revolves around a true belief in the positive advantages of introducing innovation in the workplace is of utmost important.

Lot of the responses here are really good. The main challenge to creating the innovation culture at a mid size company was the structure. When we were smaller it was easier, had to innovate to survive. The structure brings in focus for teams and individuals and shows the path to a playbook for team or individual progress in the organization ladder. Failure is often costly. Most people are risk averse, this will prevent wild card ideas and out of the box thinking. After all like in finance, high growth is only when you take bigger risk by implementing better risk management techniques. The management has champion the change top down in reducing the cost of failure. Champion the mantra of its ok fail as long as its productive failure. Reward risk takers. For mid size and I think bigger companies building that culture serves as the base, frameworks and processes will be adopted by teams for best output as natural progression once the base is set.
