How to moderate content without restricting free speech ?

4
Just curious to know how people running communities are able to do so in a safe and sensible manner. Do you rely on some automated tool that does the content moderation for you? Or, is the human approach the best? How to avoid human biases if it is being moderated manually?

I try not to limit to much - there are rules when joining the community, and so far we didn't have any major issues. I'm a strong believer in rule setting and free speech. You can speak freely, just don't cross any lines. Same as real life.

I feel that after a point, a machine also starts developing biases as it is built by humans only! I use manual approach as it gives me more room to create a framework to follow. As @miri_blayckher rightly said, the act of limiting users to express and explore can be detrimental to social media democracy. But emphasizing on basic and most significant guidelines should be done precisely. How to do that? Use your social platforms or any other channels for highlighting these rules on consistent basis. Maybe you can also add a video guide explaining the essence of the platform in a humorous and funny manner. More you make it clear for them to understand fundamentals, more they try to align with the rules. Hope this helps!

@siddhesh_lokare1 True. All you've gotta do is set guidelines about basic decency and not hurting other community members in any way. And anything that doesn't adhere to those guidelines should be removed.
