How do you use docs differently when working remotely?

Do you typically follow async workflows or sync? Have you adapted the length of the documents you write?

In remote working environments, I find that I use docs a bit more informally. And by that I mean that collaborative docs are natural places for collaboration, brainstorming and collective thought with the rest of the team. Whereas in an in-office setting, I find documents are a more firm "source of truth" owned by the maker and shouldn't be edited without express permission. I think the way I tend to use docs in remote environments speaks to the need for some sort of "messy" collaboration. In an office setting, this might be happening at desks or in a collaboration space. In the remote or hybrid world, docs can be the "meeting point" for where this happens. Of course, there are exceptions to this, but it's a clear pattern I've seen since starting hybrid/remote work in 2018.

As a tech enthusiast with a passion for tinkering with code and circuits, navigating the remote work landscape can be quite the adventure! Personally, I've found that striking a balance between async and sync workflows is key to staying productive. Adapting the length of documents I write has been a game-changer - concise yet comprehensive seems to be the magic formula. How do you approach remote work document dynamics? Let's swap tips and tricks!
