Basics - generation of ideas
I don't really know if this is the best place to ask/discuss it, since it's a bit basic/generic.
That said - how do you come up with project ideas? Main advice I remember reading was to solve problems you have, but I don't really notice/encounter them. I have this over-romanticized idea of creating/maintaining a software side-project which I just don't seem to be able to satisfy with my day-to-day work (software consultant).
Any similiar experiences?

We came-up with the solution to a problem that we faced regularly when developing API driven Apps and Microservices.
To us, building a product around a problems you personally face has the advantage that you have a thorough understanding of the problem.
If you are trying to solve a problem with which you have no direct experience with then you are dependent on feedback from the people who deal with the problem. That is absolutely fine, infact it is great to get feedback but the main challenge is that where do you find people who are willing to talk?

I am 40 years old, I have founded 3 startups all failed, your question is really critical question, everything starts from this question. if I will summarize my experience I would say start from the people, nitch people who have passion for something, fear of something, then apply the problems ATF filter ( annoying- time-consuming - frustration)
idea generation comes from experience and empathy around the users only, don't look for ideas look for problems and know more people to do so
I think the main thing is to expose yourself to new things, new experiences. Be curious - as already mentioned talk to people!
