I built Gem to help you save and organize discoveries made through social media content like Instagram and TikTok. Whether it’s a new restaurant to try, a recipe to cook, or a movie to watch, Gem captures the essence of what you find and saves it in a clean, actionable format, so it’s easy to access when you’re ready to take action. The way content is presented in the discovery phase is different from the action phase. When you’re scrolling through TikTok or Instagram, short-form videos are perfect for exploring new ideas quickly. However, when it’s time to actually use that information—like planning a night out or cooking dinner—scrolling through videos again is frustrating and time-consuming. You need quick access to the details without the distraction of video playback. That’s where Gem comes in. Instead of simply bookmarking the original video, Gem works quietly in the background. All you have to do is share the post directly from TikTok or Instagram, and Gem will automatically extract key information—like addresses, ingredients, or recommendations—and save it in a format that’s easy to read and act on when the time comes. Whether you’re planning a night out, cooking a meal, or picking a movie, Gem, makes it simple to find what you need, without having to scroll through your video feed again. Currently, Gem works with TikTok and Instagram for content related to places, recipes, movies, or TV shows. We’re working to add support for more platforms and categories, and we’re adding new features and functionality every day. Give Gem a try to see how easy it is to share a post from TikTok or Instagram—no interruptions to your browsing, just smarter saving.

@john_denley hey congrats on the launch! I added an instagram reel to gem (through the share flow) but I haven't seen it appear in the Gem app. Does it not appear until it's processed perhaps?
John Denley
@jonnymiles Thanks! We are hitting some rate limits, currently looking into it. We will re-run all requests impacted once that is resolved.

@john_denley wow, I just rechecked the app, and it brought in the places PERFECTLY. It was a TopJaw video asking a chef their favourite places in london. Immediately it makes me realise I'd find it valuable to know what video it came from, perhaps that could be added? Also FYI I got signed out and had to complete google auth again to get back into the app.
John Denley
@jonnymiles Glad to hear it! Totally agree. The next update will include easy access to the video from which the information was pulled. Thanks for letting me know about the auth issue; I will take a look.

whoaa! Looks amazing. Does it work with X? I have hard time there for sure
John Denley
@neelptl2602 X is on the roadmap, but since this is becoming a more popular request I will prioritize this.

Hey John, I'm curious about how the key information extraction works. Does it use AI to identify important details from videos? Are there plans to expand beyond TikTok and Instagram to other platforms in the future? Congrats on the launch!
John Denley
@kyrylosilin AI is one of the components! Yes, the most immediate thing on the roadmap is to support more platforms.

Gem is such a thoughtful solution for managing the flood of ideas from social media! I love how it seamlessly captures key details from Instagram and TikTok posts without the hassle of sifting through videos later. The ability to extract addresses, ingredients, and recommendations and organize them in a clean, actionable format is incredibly useful. It’s perfect for turning those fleeting inspirations into concrete plans, whether you’re planning a night out, trying a new recipe, or deciding on a movie to watch. The intuitive sharing feature from social platforms makes it effortless to save discoveries on the fly. Excited to see it expand to more platforms and categories – this is definitely going to streamline how I organize and act on my social media finds. Great job on creating such a practical tool!

Sounds promising! Are there any plans to add support for more platforms beyond TikTok and Instagram? For example, could Gem work with YouTube, Twitter, or Pinterest in the future?
John Denley
@nancy_autonomous Yes! X, Youtube and Facebook are the immediate platforms I am going to add. In addition, will be adding support for regular sites and manual upload of media.
