Hey Product Hunters 👋 I'm Paul, one of the makers of Detail. We're thrilled to launch on Product Hunt today and I almost forgot how exciting (and scary) a first product launch can be. Today, we're launching Detail for macOS in beta for the Product Hunt community. We're thrilled to open up our beta for the first 1000 people who sign up. Signup through the Product Hunt URL, and we'll send you a download link and unlock code within 24 hours. Our goal is to enable everyone to create professional video without investing a ton in new equipment or spend countless hours to master video editing. We want to improve the production quality of your video while reducing the time taken to produce it. Install Detail for macOS to upgrade your camera for Zoom, Loom, Twitch, or your favorite streaming software. The first features we're launching today: 📱 Use our iOS app to connect your iPhone camera with USB or wifi to your Mac. 💅 Select one of our 9 filters to look better than ever. 🎥 Easily switch between different camera's and iPhone lenses, while streaming, to capture the best shots. ⏺ Record high-quality video locally, while you're streaming or in video call. We're a bit scared but super excited to onboard you to our app and upgrade your video. We'll be hanging out here today to answer any questions. We're looking forward to your feedback 🙇‍♂️

@pveugen Hii! Very curious about this product. Currently I'm using Camo, but that's not very user friendly. I like the simple approach you took and I'm curious to see wether it's easy enough for the non-tech-savvy masses. That being said, I haven't been able to try it out! On your website, I need to fill in my e-mail address and there's no download link yet. Would be cool to just make that accessible for everyone here on Product Hunt :).
Paul Veugen
@samuelbeek Thanks Samuel! We're inviting everyone who signs up today through ProductHunt. You should've received your invite just now. I'll be keeping an eye on the list and will work through the invites as fast as I can.
Simon Barker
@pveugen This looks very nice, I hate how bad most webcams are
Paul Veugen
@simon_barker1 Totally! Even a lot of expensive devices look very bad. Your phone is an insanely capable device with excellent camera, sensors, and processing power. We want to move video post-production into your live camera feed, our virtual webcam is just the start.
Joseph Abraham
@pveugen : Congrats on the launch! Love this idea - iPhone as a camera source. I use Ecamm live with a external camera but this is so much fun 😎

Awesoem app! Worked with streaming apps but doesn't seem to work with ScreenFlow 🤔
Paul Veugen
@nicnocquee Ooh, interesting. We haven't tried ScreenFlow yet. Does it show up as a camera or not at all? For most apps, you have to quit and open the app before it recognizes the camera.
Nico Prananta
@pveugen it showed up as camera, and even the preview works. but after recording, the video didn't show up in the timeline. Screenshot of the preview: https://u.pcloud.link/publink/sh...

Hi there @pveugen. Detail sounds really good. I am currently using Camo, but just wondered if you could let us know what devices/iOS versions Detail will work with. Update: just received my invite – thank you. I see it requires iOS 13 and macOS 11 with an M1 capable Mac (which I don’t have - yet). Will you be supporting older hardware at all? Or will these be the minimum specs required going forward?
Paul Veugen
@craigcpaterson We currently support iOS 13 and up, and Big Sur and up. You don't need an M1 to be able to run the app. If you use your iPhone, we do most of the image processing on your phone, so the system requirements for the Mac are relatively lean.
Tom Mullen
Look forward to testing! Are there discussions/roadmap of using multiple Detail cameras and being able to switch between if you have multiple iOS cameras?
Paul Veugen
@tommullen Definitely! We can't wait to use multi-camera. In this version, you can switch between the the Detail iOS camera, built-in webcam, and external connected camera (for example DSLR). You can switch between devices while using the camera output in livestream or video call. Next, we want to add support to connect with multiple iPhones or iPads, make switching between different angles even more seamless with transitions, and create automatic transitions, and enable camera switching while you're recording.
Andreas Homer
I love Detail! The beta has been awesome, can't wait to see it grow and evolve 🙌 Congrats @pveugen and team on the launch!
v.Vilsteren
Congrats Paul and the team!🎉 I will test the beta in a few minutes with 10+ people via google meet 🙌
Paul Veugen
@stijnvvilsteren You'll be the brightest in the room ✨ – Looking forward to your feedback.
Alibek Datbayev
Congratulations on the launch, David! Amazing idea! Best of luck!
Fatih Güner
Well, I've seen the comments and couldn't find one related to my problem. After uninstalling Detail app from my computer (which didn't work for me for an unknown reason) all of my call apps including Zoom, Meet and Hand Mirror, can't see my webcam, but still see Detail Camera. How is this happening and what should I do to "really" uninstall the app. Thanks.
Paul Veugen
@fatihguner Hey Fatih, that's weird one. Sorry you're running into issues! It sounds like something prevents Detail to run as camera, and that might block other camera's. Could you try a reboot after removing, and if that doesn't help send me a quick note to support@detail.co so I can help you out with some other tips.
Andrew 💥
Just tried the app on iPhone XR + MacBook Pro: - Set-up is instant (it imidiatly recognises devices on the same network and connects) - Picture quality & speed is great, no delay ( I wonder how it performs on a slower internet though) - Was able to connect to Zoom with no problem All in all I love Detail attention to detail 😳 This icon that shows you phone battery when using back camera is such a nice touch! Also, feature request: be able to add it as a camera to Google Meet as well
Paul Veugen
@the_andriy_bond Thanks Andrew! Appreciate the feedback. > Also, feature request: be able to add it as a camera to Google Meet as well Safari on macOS unfortunately doesn't support virtual camera's. Chrome and Firefox do support the camera.
Andrew 💥
@pveugen oh, now I see - just tried on Chrome and it works great
Tom Phillips
congrats Paul and team!!
Lyondhür Picciarelli
Quite keen to try it but, for some odd reason, it requires MacOS 11 only (and I keep a couple of home office machines on MacOS 10). I really can't see why that is needed/required?
Paul Veugen
@lyondhur Hey Lyondhur. Good point. We decided to launch for macOS Big Sur and up, and iOS 13 and up, to speed up development and limit the number of device combinations we need to support and test with (now and in the future). Launching an app for both iOS and macOS at the same time, making that work on most local networks, and debugging in different types of external applications, was a big enough hill to climb 😂.
Lyondhür Picciarelli
@pveugen actually that makes a lot of sense, cheers. I wonder how distinct the testing profiles would be for MacOS 10 (latest prior BigSur). Congratulations on the launch.
Abbas Jaffar Ali
Can you use any of the iPhone's cameras? Front, Ultrawide, Macro?
David Notté
@ajaffarali Hi Abbas! Yes, you can use all the lenses available on your iPhone, including the front-facing selfie camera.
Bilal Chaglani
Awesome product. Love the fact that I can change my camera to my phone for zoom.
Paul Veugen
@bilal_chaglani Thanks Bilal! We use our phone camera for most video calls (hard to beat image quality) but sometimes like the flexibility of using the built-in camera. In Detail, you can switch between camera's without interrupting your Zoom stream. Also useful to capture different angles or when you use a DSLR as camera.
Arnob Mukherjee
This is absolutely amazing folks, great job ❤️
Paul Veugen
@iamarnob6543 Thank you Arnob 🙌
Johannes Grenzemann
Looks very cool. Will try it out as soon as you support for intel macs! Do you have a timeline for this?
Paul Veugen
@jgrenzemann Hey Johannes. We distribute our Mac app outside of the App Store and support Intel and M1. The iOS App Store listing is unfortunately a bit confusing: it is the Detail iOS app that also works on M1, which is not our Mac app. I'm trying to make that more clear on the App Store.
Ostap Yaroshevych
Great idea, thanks for sharing it and congrats on your launch!
Hustle Fund
Congrats fam, so excited about this public launch!! Grateful to be a small part of your journey. :)
Paul Veugen
@hustlefundvc Thanks team! Thrilled to be working together 🙇‍♂️
Matt Barrie
Struggling to pair phone + mac - any tips? @pveugen ?
Paul Veugen
@barriematt ah, sorry to hear. Are your Mac and Phone both connected to the same WiFi? You could also try connecting your phone to your Mac with a lightning cable. Hope that helps, otherwise please send us a quick note to support @ detail.co and we’ll help you out.
Samuel Dirksz
Good busy Paul & Crew! Good to see you are still building and creating new and amazing products! Miss our bike rides, but that was a whole other era and area ;)
Paul Veugen
@samuel_dirksz1 I'm so thrilled to be able to build something from scratch again ✨ – Hope to make it out to Norway in the near future and will definitely bring my bike.
Yousef El-Dardiry
Congratulations on the first launch @pveugen and team!

@yousefed Thanks Yousef 🙏
