@codyk / @andray - congrats on the launch. I've enjoyed goofing off with it so far.
How are you planning to acquire users? I presume you have a large audience of Iddiction fans to tap into?
Sorry for the troll tagline :), FOMO reminds me of an interesting mix between shots of me, snapchat (with longer expire options), and stickers.
Great stuff by the iddiction guys. I think @shobeir is on ProductHunt, AMA???
@andray - gotcha!
You guys have launched several apps (I'd Cap That, Face Bomb!, Appoday, Kwote, to name a few), I'm curious to hear how you come up with ideas and how you choose what you work on.
@codyk Glad to have you here :)
For someone like myself that wasn't enticed by the copy in the app store, can you tell me why I need FOMO when I already have Snapchat and existing friends (not parents) already there?
@liveink When I'd Cap That was first gaining popularity, Andrej sent me an email and ended up bringing me over to meet the team. Shortly after both I and ICT became a part of Iddiction :)
The goal behind Fomo was to build a simple social networking app that was fun and low-pressure. We did some empathy testing with real users and found out that although a lot of our target market is all over Instagram, the network in itself is very high pressure and requires a lot of thought as to what you should be posting and how often you should be posting it.
Every feature in Fomo (expiration time, drawing, stickers) aims at creating a fun, low-pressure environment for people to express themselves.
And thanks, starting to think vine is my true calling haha.
Hey! I'm product lead on Fomo. The version in the app store is a quick MVP we finished in just over a month. Still buggy but we all still have a lot of fun with it. I'll answer some questions if anyone has any.
@alwaysunday Being an avid user of both Snapchat and Fomo, I can tell you the experiences are pretty different.
In fact the only real similarity is expiring media. where Snapchat still focuses heavily on direct messaging, we built the app wholly around the feed and follower/following model. What results is easier consumption, social feedback (liking), and more discovery mechanisms. It's a lot of fun.
It's very simple and isn't confusing to modify/upload photos if you are familiar with using Snapchat and Vine. I don't think they will attract my parents and their friends to use the app which is a good thing (sorry mom!).
: )
