Want to work from your Mac without being interrupted by random distractions? focusedOS has your back by seamlessly adjusting your devices for productivity, and hiding all distractions with one click.
Hey everyone, I'm Michael! π
Introducing focusOS - a Mac/iPhone/iPad app that hides all distractions with one click. π±οΈ
I've used many apps to try and improve my focus over the years, but eventually give up using them since they can become a hassle to set up every time when I just wanted to get work done.
So I created a simple utility that seamlessly hides distractions on my devices with the flick of a switch!
With one click focusOS can;
π Dim inactive apps, limit visible apps, hide the wallpaper (on Mac)
π Block apps & websites that waste my time
π Automatically turn on Do Not Disturb
π Listen to ambient sounds to drown out noisy surroundings
π Apply the above across my devices
focusOS feels like a simple operating system for my productivity that I can share across any device I work from. (and felt like a no brainer to name it as such!)
There are also a lot of customisation options to craft the perfect environment for focusing, and you can quickly adjust things on-the-fly from the menu bar popover.
I also highly recommend trying out the Cafe ambient sound too, which is my favourite!
It makes it feel like you're working from a cafe / coworking space, and I've found it super handy for drowning out noisy people in the background.
This all being said, please go and try it out π
It's available for Mac, iPhone, and iPad, and most of the features above are free (except for linking multiple devices), which you can upgrade at the huge existing discount to celebrate this launch!
I'm suuuper excited to launch focusOS on Product Hunt today.
Drop a comment below if you have any questions or feedback - I'll be keeping a keen eye and get back to y'all.
Thank you so much! π π
@joeyfigaro Thanks for the support Joey!
I assume you might be referring to the App Privacy section? If so, i'm not directly tracking this, however, the app uses RevenueCat for managing in-app-purchases and recommends to disclose this.
Check out this link for more info; https://www.revenuecat.com/docs/... but the tldr is that RevenueCat performs receipt validation to prevent fraud.
Hope you enjoy using focusOS, and feel free to share your experience on how it goes! Cheers.
Great app! And great timing, lol. I'm drowning!!
FYI, Michael - tried to purchase via mac app store but seems a problem processing payment for your app. Is there a support email? haven't seen one on the site.
@damon_decrescenzo1 Thanks for the support Damon! Hope it will help out!
Ahh I should probably make the contact button more obvious! It's actually in the Press Kit screen below the header. My bad - sorry.
Shoot me through a pic of what's happening in-app if you can. Would also suggest double checking payment details on your Apple ID / in the App Store app; click your profile in the bottom left corner, then Account Settings in the top right. Usually that is the cause a lot of common problems. π
I had a friend upgrade to focusOS Pro around half an hour ago, so I think things seem to otherwise be working normally.
@g_briel Stage Manager isn't fun π
Jokes aside, focusOS isn't a window manager app, rather a super-utility of productivity features that seamlessly adjust your Mac for work, while also hiding distractions and boosting focus.
You could definitely use Stage Manager alongside focusOS though! Works great on iPad too.
Try it out and let me know what you think!
@teeeeeegz I tested it... However, I don't see a significant advantage between the Stage Manager and focusOS. While focusOS may have some "white noise," if we concentrate on the main feature, it seems to be the ability to display only one window at a time, if I understand your project correctly. This functionality aligns with the Stage Manager, am I correct? I have already uninstalled the application; I just conducted a quick test.
@g_briel I would probably suggest its main feature is its capability to combine and apply numerous device adjustments, blocking, and ambience with one single action.
However, thanks for trying it out though - understandable if everything else isn't meaningful to your workflow!
Good luck with the launch! I normally play Youtube videos of rain when I work to help me focus, so it's nice you have a couple in the app you can listen too.
@carmen_compagnino Thanks for the support Carmen! π₯
Sounds like focusOS might be a great fit with its nice collection of ambient sounds! Be sure to try out the Cafe sound too - that one is my favourite when I chuck a pair of headphones on.
Enjoy!
@william_jin Love that you love this! It's pretty cool linking your Mac, iPhone, and iPad together.
I wish Screen Time support was included in the visionOS 1.0 release because I would get pretty close to covering all bases. Hopefully we'll hear something about that in WWDC next month.
Thanks for the support, hope you find focusOS super helpful π
Congratulations on the launch. The most viral thing is adding stats. How much charge was saved, concentration time, efficiency. It's certainly an extra level of distraction from tasks, but it can be useful to learn and to share on social media.
Much success to you.
@ruslan_kulikov Appreciate the great feedback Ruslan, thank you!
I did consider capturing stats quite deeply early on into the prototype that I put together, but they didn't make it into the MVP.
However, I do think they'd great for sharing on socials if I can nail it. Perhaps a simple dashboard that shows things including what you mentioned.
Will mull over this further!
congratulations on the launch of focusos, michael. it sounds like a must-have for the multitasking generation. i'm curious, do you have plans to integrate focusos with other productivity tools or platforms? this could streamline workflows even further.
@mashy Thanks for the support Albert!
I would like to yes if I get a lot of feedback for something in particular. I'm unsure whether creating an Android app (for example) would be a viable option at the moment, but that is something a lot of users might appreciate who don't use an iPhone. I'll wait and see I guess!
@teeeeeegz What a great demo :D
I love zero inbox and focus, yesterday i had a client incident reporting an issue, so i jumped to check it. The problem is that i was opening a lot of tabs on my mac which made it almost impossible to focus on understanding what going on, so i wish i had tis 1 click focus app !
Glad to discover this tool, i'll give it a try asap :)
@abdellah_abbous Thanks Abdellah, appreciate the support! Glad you liked the demo too, short and sweet.
Give it a try and feel free to share how you go. It'll help with having lots of windows open at the same time for sure! Enjoy.
@benjamin_sloutsky Thanks heaps Benjamin, appreciate it! π
I think it could be really useful for them too! Just gotta find where they're hanging out next, so I can pass on the good word π
Congratulations on the launch! I've been using focusOS for a few days, and itβs been incredibly helpful in keeping my distractions in check. It's so easy to open just one distracting app without thinking and then fall down the rabbit hole of using all of them. But now focusOS stops me from doing that.
What I like most about focusOS is how easy it is to set up. Great work, Michael!
@damjandabo Thank you for the support Damjan!
Great to hear that it has been making you more resilient to common distractions. If you have an iPhone be sure to link it with the iOS app so you can block social apps too. Enjoy!
You got my upvote !! Just a quick suggestion let me decide which applications is a distraction for me. Like if it dim facebook cuz I've used it for long hours but I've to use it to make market funnels and shows a graph which tells me how much time I've spent. Btw name is really good focusOS just like it's work. Best of luck for your journey.
@ajay_kumar_yadav4 Thanks Ajay! Great to hear you love the idea!
A lot of great feedback in your comment so I'll be coming back to it! The idea of graphs/stats was something I considered early on too but it didn't make it into the MVP. But I agree it would be beneficial to see your stats over time.
Appreciate the support!
