The reason this was removed from macOS is that it is infeasible to do in flash storage (SSD) based on the way the hardware works. How does Shredo solve this problem?
@kylewdavidson That's what I thought, thank you so much. Given the fact that almost all modern Macs run SSDs, I don't think this software will be too handy.
Shredo allows users to securely and permanently delete files, folders and external volumes' contents to keep information secure and impossible for anyone to retrieve.
Depending on security level and speed, it gets the job done with 3 different data erase algorithms: 1-pass, 7-pass and 35-pass
@sassigeeks well, I've found various opinions on the web... So many that it's hard to tell which ones are true. :) I've done some testing with recovery tools, right after shredding the file and could not see the trace of it.
I've personally used shredding tools, occasionally, as long as I know myself, as well as thousands of people on the globe. Used on both HDDs and SSDs, and no SSD has ever failed. 've been using CleanMyMac's shredding utility since its existence and a couple other ones.
Had I been a hardware engineer, I'd have given you a more professional reply.
What I can tell for sure, is that the best security option for files is encryption of the entire drive. But this is a whole other story.
