Hi, excited by this product and wish it came out like 8 years ago when I was first needing them. I now have very minor prescription reading glasses for this exact purpose (+.75). Not sure whether it's worth it to try Felix Gray instead, can it in any way be better than wearing prescriptions?
Chris Benedict
@taykcrane Hi Taylor! We'll be launching reading soon enough for exactly that reason! If you want email us at help@shopfelixgray.com and we can join to our reading glasses mailing list :)

I've literally been dealing with this problem as of late. I've downloaded apps, been inverting colors so whites turn black, I've worked with better lighting. Amazing timing. Just preordered a pair!
Sydnee Funke
I LOVE my Felix Grays! Not only for their function but also for their style. I can wear these with my contacts, which I wear much more than my prescription eye glasses. However I get so many compliments on my Felix Grays, I wish I could get my prescription lenses in the FG frames too!
Chris Benedict
@sydfunke Hey Sydnee, we're sooo glad you dig em! Not a bad accessory for a technology user to have, eh? We're working on prescription, and we'll definitely get you hooked up as soon as our small startup is able to handle it operationally :))
Gabriela Hromis
Is it possible to have this with prescription lenses?
Chris Benedict
@ghromis Hi Gabriella, thanks for asking! Unfortunately, we don't yet off prescription as we just launched this year and started small. But, we're hard at work to get additional reading powers and Rx moving in 2017. We'll be letting our Rx group know the moment we're able to do so! http://shopfelixgray.us10.list-m...

Love these glasses! My eyes feel so much better at the end of the day, and the little bit of magnification makes a great difference.
Kevin Nguy
Woah looks cool! Checked out your glasses and was confused about magnification. I'm a developer who writes code all day and occasionally do some design work. Would I get magnification on my glasses? Thanks!
Chris Benedict
@kevnguy Hey Kevin, great question! The magnification we currently offer is the slightest amount possible, just +0.25. This helps the eyes' ciliary muscles work a little less while focusing in and out on the screen all day, and adds a little contrast to the overall image. As a developer, magnification would probably be great, as it's most enjoyed by those who spend the most of their day in a terminal or excel. It is, however, a personal preference, so if you try magnification and decide it's not for you, we'll send you a pre-paid shipping label and swap the lens for one without magnification free of charge :) Thanks again for reaching out, and we'd be happy to answer any more questions you may have at help@shopfelixgray.com!
Chris Scott
@shopfelixgray I'm sitting in the cart on your site right now, trying to decide this exact thing. Awesome that you guys will swap those out, I think I'll give magnification a shot! Thanks!

I have been using the product for a while, and while I doubted it at first, the difference is notable!! Don't leave home without your phone, keys, and Felix Gray's
Chris Benedict
@samrealizes Woohoo! Glad they're helping, Sam! Back when we were analysts before starting FG, we were also skeptical of solutions... Until we started researching, testing different products and lens types, etc. Once we realized this is a real thing (the gaming industry adopted this a while ago) we knew we had to create a modern, fashionable design for all the folks out there staring at their computer all day, just like us! Thanks so much for the support :)
Braunson Yager
@felixgrays No love for your northern neighbors (Canada)? :(
Chris Benedict
@braunshizzle Hey Braunson, we love our neighbors up north! In fact, one of our earliest adopters was an amazing Canadian developer from Microsoft that grabbed a pair when she was visiting the states. The 3 of us at FG are working hard at International expansion, and Canada is certainly first on the list! We'll be letting this group know the moment we're able to ship to all our friends with tired eyes around the globe :) http://shopfelixgray.us10.list-m...
Braunson Yager
@felixgrays Thanks, I've already signed up. I live ~5 minutes from the US border and have a address over there I can ship to so I may have to use that for now :D
Chris Benedict
@braunshizzle Oh awesome! That will work perfectly fine. Really glad this is the case; the only bummer about being such a young startup is having to be patient with operational facets like international shipping, but we're on it ;)

I stare at screens all day long. The fatigue is real - and as a designer - maintaining healthy eyes is very important to me (it should be to everyone). I recently got my pair of Felix Grays and so far I really like them. There are similar products out there focused on gamers (I'm not a gamer) - but I really liked the style of these. I've never had to wear glasses before in my life, but if I'm going to start wearing them now, I want them to be comfortable and not make me look dorkier than I already do.
Chris Benedict
@_tyoung Trevor, you just explained the origin of Felix Gray perfectly! We were analysts who felt our eyes were getting too burned out for being in our mid-20's and wanted a quality solution that was a little less game-y and a little more office-appropriate! Of course, we're out here for all our gamer friends as well :)
Evan Knight
Is this like a physical version of using F.lux? https://justgetflux.com/
Chris Benedict
@evannite Hey Evan, kind of! f.lux is a great product for warming the temperature of your screen, but because it is a software solution, it does not fundamentally alter the diodes of LED screens, so there is high energy light still emitted. Also, it does nothing for glare, which is a major component of eyestrain. When testing these glasses with professionals at companies like Spotify, LinkedIn, Barclays and Google, we met a ton of folks who also used software solutions, but still use Felix Grays because of the reasons mentioned above for the ultimate comfort. Also, f.lux is great for developers that work in a terminal all day, but if you're a designer or constantly work with the web, changing the entire color of your screen is not ideal. Here's a little piece Forbes did on software solutions, Nightshift in this case: http://www.forbes.com/sites/gord...

Kyle Winton
Do these affect how you perceive blue on screen? Want to make sure designs are still color correct...
Chris Benedict
@_kylewinton Great questions, Kyle! We have gotten the lens extremely clear, specifically to look out for all the designers out there who hold absolute color paramount. There has to be a slight hue to filter the correct wave lengths of blue light, but our new lens is extremely clear and has received a great response from all the graphic designers we've worked with! Of course, we have a free 30 day shipping/return/exchange policy, so if the color through the lens is not to your liking, you can always send them back risk free! We want our users and community to absolutely love their Felix Grays, and more importantly, wear them to protect their eyes... This is why we've upheld this policy from the very beginning, we only want you to wear Felix Gray if Felix Gray helps you do what you do better :)
David Feng
Love the looks of these! Where are they frames and lenses made? I've seen a few other suppliers and they get their stuff cheap from southeast asia. I'd like to know the quality and manufacturer dependability on these. Congrats! @felixgrays
Chris Benedict
@davidsfeng Hey David, thanks for the kind words! A cheap solution is exactly what we set out to change when starting Felix Gray. We differentiate our selves from other blue light lens and frame providers by focusing on quality, which is why we have a slightly higher price point. Unlike other lens providers you mentioned, we do not simply slap on a blue light coating, but instead, have synthesized the pigment naturally produced by the human body and imbedded it in the polycarbonate lens itself. While much more expensive to produce, this absorbs the correct amount of blue instead of just reflecting it, which gives off a purple glare... Not flattering! This also means that the coating will never chip or flake like coating solutions, drastically improving the lens durability and longevity. Also, we have gotten the lens nearly crystal clear, (they appear as normal eyeglasses) as we wanted to create something those who benefit from such a product would actually want to wear. For the frames, we don't use plastic or other stamp-able materials, but instead, our frames are handcrafted with acetate from Varese, Italy - a region with over a century of experience in producing the world's nicest acetates. We do use a manufacturer in China for the frames, and while this manufacturer is proprietary, we made sure to source the same manufacturer that handcrafts frames for a handful of the most sought after eyewear brands in the world. It took a lot of homework, and long flights, but we wanted to make sure quality was second to none. We then build each pair of Felix Grays at our optics labs (New York and Arizona) as they're ordered for each customer. So how are we able to piece all of this together for an honest price of $95? To start, we're a 3-person startup, so overhead is zero. Second, we've built our supply chain and business in hyper-efficient way utilizing cloud technology and pay ourselves only enough to cover rent :) We started Felix Gray as former analysts working in startups and financial markets when we decided that our mid-twenties was way too young to experience eye problems derived from working with computers all day. Unsatisfied with the few cheap and gaudy options available, we decided to leave our careers to build a company that helps our colleagues, and in the process, further disrupt the eyewear business, which has always been built on disgustingly high margins. We're just a group of technology lovers who wanted to build a high-quality product for our friends and colleagues doing awesome things in front of the screen all day :)

i spend around 14 hours in front of screen. all the words about this looks good. going to try this one.

@jiagarwa Woohoo! You sound just like us :) Let us know if you have any questions at help@shopfelixgray.com!

How do these affect color balance and is there a way to get them in prescriptions?
Chris Benedict
@trulyadamant Hey Adam, We've gotten the lens extremely clear, specifically to look out for all the designers out there who hold absolute color paramount. There has to be a slight hue to filter the correct wave lengths of blue light, but our new lens is extremely clear and has received a great response from all the graphic designers we've worked with! Pierre-Marie Galite
Does it ship internationally? Like in France, maybe?
Chris Benedict
@tsunaze Hi Pierre, unfortunately, we currently only ship in the US as we just launched this year and started small. However, we are working hard to get to the point where we can help all the tired eyes across the world, and we'll be letting this group know the moment we're able to do so :) http://shopfelixgray.us10.list-m...
Tom Littrell
What's the functional difference between these and $10 blue-blocking, slightly magnifying computer glasses I snagged from Amazon? Marketing?
Chris Benedict
@tomlittrell Hey Tom, great question, as we had to do a ton of research when we left our old gigs as analysts to start this company. We learned that, in eyewear, you get what you pay for and there's a lot of science that goes into how the lens functions, especially when you make it as clear as possible. To start, looking at the wavelengths of high energy light diverted from the eyes, and how it's done so is keen. Most other blue blocking lens completely block the blue light with a coating that can chip or scratch, whereas Felix Gray lenses actually absorb the harmful wavelengths while allowing the "good" blue light through, and this is baked into the polycarbonate itself, so it will not chip or peel. To get a comparable lens from an optometrist would cost between $200-300, but we created our business to go against the historic disgusting margins of the eyewear industry. Another difference is the frame material and hinges. Where the $10 option from amazon is made of plastic with cheap hinges, we use premium acetate from Varese, Italy, with a durable hinges for longevity. While a more expensive and modern version may not be for everyone, we wanted to make sure we were sure to create the highest quality option available, suitable for any office or sense of fashion. Also, we're a small 2 person startup with a marketing budget that's almost non-existent. We have grown by learning some marketing tactics, but predominately by word of mouth, as we spent months demo-ing Felix Grays with employees at companies like Uber, Barclays, Spotify, Google and LinkedIn to make sure users found them beneficial before going to market. This was a really good question, and as I mentioned, something we were extremely curious about when starting Felix Gray. Everyone should ask it :)
Josh Puetz
Is there any scientific basis for the claims made about these lenses?
Nur Myrza
@joshpuetz @felixgrays any science ehind the product?
