Etch is an app to save your favorite spots and help you find new ones through the people you know and trust. It’s that simple.

Hello PH! Brad and I are the co-founders of Etch, a new restaurant and bar discovery app, which we've built lovingly in NYC. Do we really need another app for this? Perhaps not. But if you're like us and prefer to receive recommendations from friends and don't like to write public reviews on Yelp or Google then we think you'll really enjoy what we're building. Here are some key features that make Etch different. Keep track of all your favorite places: - Easily save your favorite places or ones you want to try - Leave notes so you can remember why you saved it - We use a simple rating system: 💛 👍 👎 (no ambiguous 5 star system) - Explore your saved places on a map, so you can easily see what’s nearby - Etch is a closed network, which means only your friends can see your activity Discover new places: - See places that your friends have saved, and what they love about them - You and friends can create lists together such as "Best Brunch in Brooklyn" - Use Etch when traveling to see where your friends have been in a new city Right now Etch is available on iOS only, but don’t worry, we’ll be working on an Android version as well. Hope you enjoy it - we’re here to answer any questions you have!

When sifting through pages of recommendations takes longer than the meal you hope to enjoy - turn to your friends on Etch!

Pros:

Cuts Down Reccomendation Noise

Cons:

Need more friends to join the party!

It's information vs recommendations -- we prefer recommendations :) Thanks for the feedback!

-- Facebook login is a bit limiting

-- Would be nice to leverage phone contacts in addition to Facebook friends to expand network

-- Search relevancy is a bit off

Pros:

Social proof for restaurant/bars from an inherently trusted network makes a lot of sense. Great way to discover new places.

Cons:

Need more people in my network to start using it!

Good news! Support for Google login is next up on our product enhancements. For phone contacts (non-FB friends), you can actually add anyone as a friend in Etch, even if you're not connected on FB. Just search for their name and anyone using the app will pop up. You can also connect your phone contacts in the app to send invites via SMS, email, etc. Thanks for the feedback!

Pros:

I think it's a great app. Just need more people to know about it. The more people that use it the better the app works for you.

Etch is a really great app that can really become a first point of contact in terms of finding new restaurants in an area; the only problem at the moment is that there aren't enough people using the app to really showcase its potential.

Pros:

Having the opportunity to read reviews from people you trust

Cons:

More people!!!

Bradley Scott
Thanks! Agreed - the more the merrier :)

As more and more of my friends download Etch it will become even better, especially when I'm traveling to a new city that someone on my friends' list has been to before - my friends' recommendations will really come in handy.

Pros:

User friendly and a quick way to keep track of restaurants I've been to and enjoyed, plus get an idea of my friends' faves.

Cons:

I need more friends to download the app!

Bradley Scott
Thanks Katrina! Working on that user growth :)

I look forward to their being a larger base of users.

Pros:

A more discerning way to get true reviews.

Cons:

Keep on growing.

Thanks Steven! Glad you're enjoying it so far!
