What would you say to someone who is having great security concerns over this product? Since it will be accessing our emails in some way.
Rafa Garcés
Hi @daryllman 😊 You don’t have to worry about your data security. Email Meter only accesses your email metadata, which is always encrypted and never leaves the Google Cloud. This means that we never read, process or store the body of your emails. If you’re interested in learning more about this you can check out our security section: https://www.emailmeter.com/safe

Hi Product Hunt, This is simple — We created a special tool to see your 2020 in email data, for free. Let me know what you think!

What’s done with user data? Not many people are going to just grant total access to their email. This sounds potentially dangerous.

@itsmattmac Hi Matt! Thanks for the question. We only request a Gmail API access level called "metadata" which includes the email headers ONLY — that is, we don't request access to the body or attachments. To be able to use that Gmail scope we're verified yearly by Google, with a rigorous audit conducted by a third party. You can read more about our security here 👉 https://www.emailmeter.com/safe

@itsmattmac Hey Matt, I just wanted to add that we don't use the metadata for any other purpose, just analytics. Our business model is based on paying customers that need advanced analytics, and our Privacy Policy states that we won't sell this data to 3rd parties, aside from subprocessors. I totally understand the concern, that's why I t'm taking the extra effort to add that! Thanks!

I like the idea. Looks super simple too - nice work!

wow, this is interesting. tbh i am still a bit worried about the security of my data.
Carlos Sevilla
@vladojsem Glad you found it interesting, VladimĂr! đŸ‘‹đŸ» We never process or store the body or attachments of your emails because we don’t have access to them. The only information that we analyze are the headers which contain data such as: from, to, subject, label or date. To do it, we use the minimum necessary API scopes available to offer you your statistics: Gmail Metadata. Also, the process to ingest email data and turn it into statistics happens entirely inside Google Cloud Platform. Feel free to DM me if you want to know more!
