Great tool! I'd suggest a feature where I can prompt the summary according to my current research goals.
For instance, customize it like "list top 3 most important ideas" or "list all cities that were mentioned", and so on.
@nikmcfly Wow, I love this one! I have a backlog of 100-150 ideas and this one isn't there and it's awesome! In addition to custom queries, you can make top 5 popular presets for different tasks. Thank you!
Great Idea! This product can save hours of time for millions of people. And as we know, time is the most valuable resource these days. Good luck guys! Wish you to become the App of the Day 💪
Pretty cool stuff, not gonna lie! I’m a chronic 2x watcher, especially for long form content. Definitely gonna check it out. Congrats on the launch! :)
Hey Product Hunt! I'm Alex, the founder of:
--- Eightify — AI summaries for Youtube ---
⭐️ 8 key takeways
⏱ ~10s to generate
🤖 OpenAI GPT-3 under the hood
--- Why I Created This ---
I got the idea to summarize YouTube videos when I asked my friend for the key message of a one-hour video for the third time. People often recommend videos to me, so I need to ensure they're worth watching. I created a prototype in just 2 days, and it already seemed useful to my friends. After 1.5 months, I'm delighted to present it to you with the help of Kevin!

--- I would love to hear your feedback ---
• How could this product be useful for you?
• What features would you like me to release next? I'm considering "skip sponsored content” and integrating OpenAI Whisper for videos without subtitles.
• How can summaries be improved?
@_1_ras you mean how does it work?
I would like to avoid a detailed description for now :)
GPT-3 is the basis, I think you can get some basic results in 30 minutes using it
@ax8080 hi, maybe I asked not in right way. I know how GPT work, but I didnt get how your product provide, if I cant to put links to GPT - it doesnt accept. So could explain what I should do in your product and what to get?
@_1_ras Ouch ouch ouch sorry!
You need to install Chrome Extension from this link: https://chrome.google.com/websto...
Then open any Youtube video and click "Summarize" button.
After installation the "Tutorial" will open automatically.
@mikestaub But anyone can look at the source code of an extension, can't they? There are even extensions that provide UX for that. Google forbids the use of code obfuscation in extensions, and I don't.
I am extremely pleased with the performance of the tool, and I have found it to be extremely effective. Additionally, I have found that the team leader, Alex, is an exceptional product and technical manager who consistently achieves his objectives. We utilize otter.ai for real-time recording and summary, and I am hopeful that future updates will include real-time summary functions.
Congrats @ax8080 on a launch!
@alex_dolgov Hi! Thank you for the kind words!
I first thought you missed the comment when you mentioned the other service :D I'll see what they do, haven't heard of them before!
As a founder of ConferenceCast.tv, that I've been developing for 4 years as a directory of professional conference recordings, the matter of summarizing of talks was always a pain point for me. And I've been looking for solutions in this field, both automatic and manual, all this time. And also thought a lot about a possibility of generation of such summaries by AI itself and how to teach such an AI to understand what is important and not right now or a year ago. I came to a conclusion that AI should be a) constantly "in material" and b) trained by somebody who is on the edge of knowledge field. And it doesn't look real still. It's interesting how ChatGPT, which has a dataset limited by 2021, can extract the meanings out of fresh topics. I'm so doubted it can, but will give it a try :)
@mujaji I see that you are deeply into the subject and you have an established need. Please, when you check it out, share the results. Here or message me on any of the social networks. I'd be happy to discuss your insights and maybe refine the product to meet your needs.
This tool looks great! I embed YouTube videos on my blog that might be of interest to my readers from third-party creators and I can use this tool to provide them with a summary of what's in the video to help them to decide whether to watch it or not. I think that will enhance the experience for my readers on my blog. So thanks for creating this and I look forward to giving it a try when I have a moment.
@simon_s_j Thank you! You can give it a try already, it's live.
By the way all the cached already summarized videos are free for all users. So if you summarize it once, all the summaries will be instantly available for your readers.
@ax8080 Great! And I fixed my original post which I saw on re-reading was very scrambled. Used voice-to-text and did not check! I promise I'm not drunk! 🍾 😳
Congrats on your launch! The combination of summary and timestamps can be very useful for YouTubers who need to create chapters for their videos. The extra step needed is to generate a short title out of the summary you already provide. I'm curious as to the importance you give to the figure 8 (even in the app name). Wouldn't some videos need to be broken down into more/fewer parts?
@sefi_k To be honest, I spent almost all my time on the product and quality of the summaries. And that title, which I came up with GPT in 5 minutes was left until the very start.
As for the 8 points - it's almost always convenient, both for short videos and for long ones. I have the task of making the number of points dynamic in backlog, yes. But probably in the range of 6-10 items.
And many thanks to you for the feedback and your congrats 🔥
Nowadays YouTube bombard you with tooons of videos every days. And every video seems to be worthy
I love the Eightify idea to save your time in this age of informational overload! Keep it up!
Incredible work - congratulations on launching 🎉! I'm curious if there are any plans for AI powered summarisation for audio podcasts? I listen to a lot of podcasts and it would be great to have a summary of the key points I could refer back to.
@mike_sverdlov Hi, Mike! Thanks so much!
If the podcast is on YouTube, you can already use it to get a summary of the key points.
I'll definitely research the demand for other platforms and see if it's something I can add in the future.
@ax8080 Great product! A special compliment for creating an idea that perfectly fits the ProductHunt format.
Professional question, if you consider it possible to answer. We are engaged in machine learning professionally, but in computer vision. Therefore, there is a purely research interest. Have you been able to bypass the limit on the length of the request at 2000/4000 tokens?
After all, the number of words in a 2 hour video can be more, do you split it into pieces or what doesn't fit doesn't get into summarization
Thanks a lot!!
Yes, I divide it into segments. An average interview/podcast is around 150,000 symbols, which is roughly 30,000 tokens. But I split it into even smaller parts, about 1,000 tokens each. There are a lot of nuances, but the basic principle is the same as described by OpenAI in its article on Alice in Wonderland summarization.
Whooooa!
I used it to summarize an hour-long video and was able to easily find the part I was most interested in. With just a few clicks, I was able to jump to that moment and watch the video for an additional 7 minutes to get more context. This is amazing!
I never loved the way videos sounded on 2X speed but I am always looking to save time. This might also be helpful to pick out what portions I want to hear from the actual video. Pretty cool idea, wish you the best in improving it and making it a staple product.
Very cool, installed and tried it on a 2hr Andrew Huberman video, and I enjoyed the 8 point summary. I like the expanded summaries as well, I'm curious if you will allow it to fetch more key points in the future?
Wow, this looks really cool! Will there be any mobile support in the future? I'm always on the go and would love to be able to access Eightify from my phone.
@mari_yanchauskayte Thanks!!
I'm definitely thinking of adding mobile support in the future, but right now I'm focusing on making the Chrome extension as good as possible. If the product is successful, I'll definitely jump into mobile development. Even though I've never done a mobile app before :)
wow, that's a really time-saving app! I find it extremely useful for various "5 tips on how to..." videos! i watch them high speed, now I know a better way! :) good luck!
@anya_brooy Thanks! :D The problem with "5 tips on" is that Eightify will make 8 key takeaways in any case (but still should be useful). I'm planning to make the number of key takeaways dynamic.
Thanks again!
love that so much! especially having on "to watch" list sooo many random (but long) videos recommended by friends... it will make it all so much faster to grasp the point
Fantastic idea, congrats on the launch! 🎉 Is there a way to share the summaries without having to copy and paste them? It would be great to be able to share it with friends one-click style.
@aleybov Thanks! Yeeah, I even started working on a one-click sharing feature. But unfortunately didn't make it before the launch, like many other things 😀 Definitely planning to add it soon, stay tuned!
