@calebarclay this looks awesome and i'll probably order at some point
but some of the pricing is confusing. why's it cost $88 to select "none" for the cooling/heating option? seems like setting a low base price that you can't actually order a unit for $8,234 because even selecting no customization increases the price. Why not just list the actual price for the zero customization option and then only increase the price if someone customises from the default?
@calebarclay got it. also was wondering about the interior and exterior "customizations"
do you have to pay the $800 extra for drywall exterior and $900 for smooth exterior?
you can't just not select either of those. right? so imho the base price should show those as $0 and then only show the additional cost for customizations that you make. the base options should be built into the floor price imho
Hey PH, and thanks for the hunt @bentossell!
Dwellito Mini Office is a product designed for the times. We've been working (in our homes) to figure out how to offer mini-offices to those that need a legitimate work station. With all the distractions that comes with WFH, we wanted to create a alternative: a home-office, outside the home. So we decided on a design that met 3 criteria:
-Bigger than a phone booth, enough to fit a desk.
-Shipping 8 weeks or less
We simplified the design / system of parts to the core essentials but prefabrication is really the key to this. Prefab is the reason for faster build and delivery times, and lower costs.
We're excited to share this product with you and hope you can get one yourself. As always, we'd love to hear your feedback!
@bentossell@calebarclay Dwellito is legit one of my favorite sites on the internet. Beautifully designed, great content, and an awesome investment strategy if you have spare land. Nicely done!
@calebarclay I really like how creative this is. It's overall budget friendly when you consider commute, and rent, and everything, but it's actually a game changer as well! It gets you out of your normal living space into a dedicated office space. I don't have an immediate need but I like this on the personal/working health angle. Great stuff!
@fitzn Thank you for the kind words! It's been awesome to see how many people are interested in having a retreat studio, whether for work or for hobby.
Thank you for making this. My Wife and I both work from home and have been discussing building an office in the back yard. The catch has been finding the balance between aesthetics and price. Dwelito looks like its found just that. Let us know when you start shipping to Canada!
This is awesome 👍
@calebarclay the financing options described on the site seem oriented toward the modular homes (not the offices). What types of financing are in play for the offices?
@conarro Great question. Financing is something we are working on. There are the conventional options using refi, or a line-of-credit. But we're trying to find ways to finance this like you would a car and make payments, or even "renting" the office for a 6mo lease.
I like this alot! But why is there only a limited amount? Will you bring it back to market again, since it is selling out? It would be a real let down if I can't buy this when I finally have the cash.
@jessehojjensen Yes, 100%. This limited amount was to make sure the fabrication could be done on schedule (8 weeks). Feel free to fill out the form so we can get you on the list.
@calebarclay
Great! Thank you! Do I have to worry about it if a hurricane comes in my neighborhood? Plus its, not a flat-flat roof right, it has some slant (couldn't see a top view)? Had a bad experience with those.
I found another perfect use case for it. I'll try to convince my dad to buy one too so I can make the pool deck looks like this:
https://www.contemporist.com/11-...
I just need to figure out how to build rest.
@themsaid The wall unit / condenser unit would be the way to go in hotter/colder temperatures. Since the space is so small, we're going to run a test with the Dyson fan in Arizona's summer.
It just looks cool. Won't have much demand because it doesn't take a lot of time in setting up your personal office and usually many have a similar setup already at home. Just a table and a chair.
Normal people won't buy it because there's no jobs and constant money flow. So will try to save money. And rich people won't buy because if they're rich enough, they should have a great house with office setup too. Architects aren't stupid.
It's a fancy idea that sounds really great but I don't think people will prefer buying it.
Quite a harsh truth. The founder should be aware of this thing.
@iamromec
Are you joking? There are always demands for stuff like this. Especially if the market it toward America and Canada. We Americans buy anything, which is also why we are debt.
Normal people buy tiny homes and sheds for offices. This product is better and costs less than an ugly, old fashioned designed shed (depending on the customization of course). Free power from the sun? Oh yeah!
Normal people want to work outside next to their home and not IN their home. Used to be that way at my house but then you realize work and home should be separate spaces or you will feel like you are always at work and you never left. It helps people sleep better when they don't work in the same place they rest.
Some rich people are smart about what they want, some prefer simple things like this. Plus it has less space to clean and cost less than another small mini-offices on the market.
Some people just want a little space or "me" time as an entrepreneur to do work or network online.
Sure the normal people will save now, and the monthly payment plans are like buying Tesla, but they will definitely buy one of these! And if they come up with more payment options that would be even better.
Architects have built small spaces for leisure too. I used to take architecture classes. This product has a less ecological footprint and can be transported, which is great. It's better than going to a big building office and has other people there. This is perfect for the Pandemic we are having cause now you can work in a space close to home, can't even go out now.
If you want to find stupid architects just go to the housing community that has the same house that looks like the one next to and across from it. I feel bad for them since they need it for the job :/
Yesterday there were 50 left (when I checked it the first time) now there is 22.
Can it have a deskless option? I have a great desk already.
Can it be soundproof? I'm thinking it'd be great for podcast recording too.
Can it be transported easily if moving to another city?
@bambi_weavil Yes, it comes desk-less actually. Yes, you can easily transport it anywhere, it's not attached to a permanent foundation. Hmmm, I'll look into soundproofing. With the glass, it might be tricky but maybe there is a product that could be placed over the glass temporarily...
@jmarcowelker That's a great observation. Most of the modular homes on the site will have additional costs: permitting, site work, site conditions, utility hookup, etc. We constantly work on better mapping out those numbers.
At first I did the math and thought this was a very expensive option... then I looked up the average price per sq foot in my state (New Jersey) and this is actually $20 cheaper.. seems cool.
This looks amazing, wish I could have one. Maybe once I got enough space and budget, I'd definitely enjoy having a small studio like this.
Just a little feedback if it helps: While I was instantly filling the form, I noticed that "heating and cooling" part of the customisation process seemed a bit hidden. It might be better if that section looks like the rest of the options, with images and larger selection area.
