I've considered building a cabin in northern Michigan as a little get away. This might be a solid option πŸ€”

@chadwhitaker A getaway cabin sounds so nice. Maybe even build a small prefab community ;)

this is an awesome resource. I was previously comparing all of these different sites, so it's awesome to have them all in one place.
Toni Gemayel
I've spent so much time on this site its not even funny. I really love what you've done with Dwellito, keep up the good work @calebarclay! Really showcases just how powerful the no code movement is.
Caleb Barclay
Ahh thanks @tonigemayel! Excited for your next launch! πŸš€

🚨Build without code🚨 This is one of those awesome products that really makes you think about what's possible without code. @calebarclay built this and shared his story on Makerpad on how he did it: https://www.makerpad.co/stories/... It also helps that I used to have a shipping container for an office so I love the modular homes/studios.

Congrats @calebarclay ! Fantastic work and love the no code aspect. I recently built an ADU and looked all over for prefabs since it seems crazy to build something like this from scratch. I also put together my own no-code solution to help others that are looking to evaluate the financial aspects of adding an ADU. https://aduroi.com/ Would be great to talk with you about building a custom version of the financial calculator for your users.
Caleb Barclay
@olsengrant Great work! I've been looking into calculators all week in fact. Having a calculator would be great on the site. Let's connect. I'd love to interview you about your process building an ADU.

I'm smitten with this site. Love it. Such a cool concept, really strong web design. The whole thing is fascinating to me.
Caleb Barclay
Thank you so much @treggify

I've been waiting for a concept like this for some time. I think conventional modular homes are a brilliantly democratic solution to home ownership. The downside being that they're usually derided as being shoddy and the residents of such homes having all manner of negative stereotypes slapped on them. For that reason, I've been yearning for a modular home that's nice, but still inexpensive. The Volkswagen Beetle of Modular Home. They appear to have that and more.

Kind of crazy that prefab home kits are making a comeback (Sears sold thousands of these in the early 1900s). Would you buy a tiny house on the internet?

Makes me wish that I: 1. lived in the US (I think you ship worldwide but shipping costs are higher the further away you are) 2. had that kind of money πŸ˜† Love browsing this awesome site, even though I won't be purchasing anything anytime soon πŸ‘πŸ»
Ryan Soderberg
This is awesome! Can you make it so you can apply multiple filters at once? (2 Bedroom and USA shipping) It would also be great if you added a section that talks about the additional costs typically faced when purchasing something like a modular home. πŸ˜ƒ
Caleb Barclay
@ryanjsod Those are great suggestions. That's one of the limits in Webflow is multi-filters. I am hoping it comes out soon. On the pricing topic, we've explored a number of directions: using icons for services included, a percentage, an all-in estimate. The best solution so far is to have a price breakdown on the product's detail page. But as a site-wide article, that would be a great one.
HiramFromTheChi
As an aspiring minimalist, this concept has peeked my interest since I first came across it. Can you talk more about the logistics? I understand what modular building is, but how do utilities function, for example? Let's say I bought the land and ordered my house. What do I need to set up electricity, plumbing, etc.? Also, what sorts of weather can it withstand? So when it's -100 mid-winter in Chicago, will I die?
Caleb Barclay
@hiramfromthechi Some companies will do everything for you: permits, site-prep, utility hookup, delivery, completed home. This is called a "Turn-Key" service. But most of the prefab companies will have you doing the site-work, trenching, utility hook ups, and sometimes foundation. We're working hard at getting a more formalized "what's included" on the site. Regarding windy city, modular homes are *often* built stronger than stick frame homes. This is because of several factors: built indoors, quality materials, steel framing. The foundation might need to be bigger for extreme winds. When you start your project, you'll get a site analysis to determine those factors.
Caleb Barclay
@hiramfromthechi @will @mercy_ihecci That gave me a good chuckle...
HiramFromTheChi
@calebarclay Great, thanks for elaborating. I'm familiar with turnkey properties as well, but my mind got to thinking about the supply chain/logistics side of "Ok, bought the house. Now what?" A "What's included" section would be very helpful so we can see what aspects of the real estate development lifecycle we would need to pay attention to.
Rich Schierloh
Looks like the content is wrapping under the filters sidebar.
Caleb Barclay
@richs can you DM me so I can see what you are seeing?

Very nice to bring this concept to web 2.0
Caleb Barclay
@adridder Agreed, great timing as prefabs are making their way back.

This is amazing

Really appreciate it @ricardo_rodriguez5

I love it!

So glad you like it @gimartin!

US only ? Or even Canada?
lifo ed
From the site "Shipping costs are calculator per mile (or km) based on the closest factory to the property that you are placing your modular home. If the closest factory is overseas, you can expect a large shipping cost (~$17,000 USD) due to specialized shipping. If your modular home is flat packed, it is significantly cheaper because it is shipped conventionally". So it feels no limitation, shipping costs add on to wherever.
Caleb Barclay
@lifo_ed That's correct. We're looking at improving that flow to provide an estimate of how much each unit costs, shipped to your door. Panelized systems and kits of parts are an economical alternative for an oversea manufacturer. A fully assembled home requires special transportation so it's much higher.

This is great man. What we're seeing here is the future of web design, commerce and industry all coming together. I imagine this being a catalyst as to how businesses begin to approach niche products and seemingly daunting projects and turning them in to very user-friendly, easy to understand, fun projects. I wasn't even in the market for a modular home, but if it's this easy to learn what exactly a modular home is, how it benefits me AND how I can even profit from owning one, I'm all in!
Caleb Barclay
Thanks @ricolavender1 and great points. Prefabs are a promising alternative to conventional construction. Could be a giant industry if we can solve some of the core problems. Also, Casita 850 is calling your name :)
Will Buckley Mower
This sounds amazing... I'm very interested in minimalism, naturalism, and DIY!

Great to hear from you @willbuckley!
