- Personalize your message and engage with teammates, clients, and customers.

Thanks for the hunt, @thinker.
Hey PH friends! Youcef here, I’m part of the product team working on Dropbox Capture.
For many, remote work has meant endless hours of video meetings, constant chat messages, and long emails in place of the kind of dynamic communication that comes from being in the same room. Customers who work across time zones have told us they need new ways to provide context for their content without adding more meetings and emails.
That’s why we are excited to introduce a new product experience called Dropbox Capture.
Capture is an all-in-one visual communication tool that helps team members share their work and ideas asynchronously. You can use it to:
- Replace lengthy emails and docs with short video messages to communicate with your team in less time
- Bring clarity to your message by visually presenting your work through easy-to-take screen recordings, GIFs, and screenshots
- Convey context and connect more deeply with personalized messages
- Free up your calendar and avoid impossible meeting scheduling across time zones by recording and sharing status updates and work-in-progress with your team
Today, Capture is in beta across personal and business plans and you can try it for free at dropbox.com/capture.
I will be around on Product Hunt, answering any questions in the comments section below. We have very ambitious plans with Capture, and I can’t wait to hear your feedback and see what you create with it.
Thank you!
Youcef, on behalf of the Dropbox Capture team
Love the tool so far! Just a few notes:
1. It would be awesome for the shared link to be shorter
2. An option to focus on your annotation vs the rest of the screenshot: https://capture.dropbox.com/Zhs8...
3. Option to upload from clipboard
4. Option to upload from your mac
5. Drag and drop an image to upload
Just my two cents 😊
@esbvn
1. Noted!
2. Coming, expect huge improvements to the markup functionality in the next few app updates.
3,4.5 Seems like more options to ingest content into Capture, could be handy indeed. Thank you for your feedback!
@johnsalzarulo John, thank you for your comment. Video communication at work is becoming an important need for customers who work in a distributed environment, so we see other tools in the market as validation of this, and it’s what we’ve been hearing from our users that they’re looking for. While we are still early, there are a couple of differentiators on Capture right now:
1) Dropbox Capture is unique in that all of the features come together in one comprehensive tool. Users can take and markup screenshots, create audio and video recordings, and make GIFs all from Capture vs. needing to use several different tools to access all of these features
2) Capture is built on Dropbox’s familiar and trusted brand, with best-in-class, secure infrastructure—and gives people already working in Dropbox a new way to visually share their content and ideas, and communicate more easily
3) There are tons of features we’re offering in this free beta experience, such as 4k recordings, video markup, unlimited videos, and the recording of specific portions of your screen or app
Give Capture a try and let me know what you think.
Thank you!
Youcef
Very interesting! I use Loom but it’s a bit slow/laggy on my device and it’s only good for sharing video (no GIFs as far as I’m aware and screenshots are in beta). A better alternative like (hopefully?) Dropbox Capture would be welcome.
What will the pricing look like once it’s out of beta? Will you have a free version or will it only be available in Pro accounts?
@anna_0x Thank you so much for your feedback, Anna. I hope Capture can be a solid alternative for you. On the pricing question, we’re always looking into pricing and packing options that give our users the flexibility to find the solutions that best fit their needs. So more to come on that subject!
@william_gendron Fair question. I just answered above on John's comment. Copy pasting the answer below:
