Detour 2.0 — Explore cities with guided audio tours

1.0 had a lot of promise, but using it in a group was glitchy, as each participant had to purchase a tour individually. With 2.0, Detour's design has been cleaned up, group guides are now free, and its engine has been completely rewritten:
Our new engine can handle Detours that play different content and follow different paths depending on things like business operating hours or the weather. It handles non-linear Detours where the listener doesn't have to follow a fixed path. It allows for listeners to answer questions by pressing buttons on the screen to create "Choose Your Own Adventure" style experiences. We're excited to see what our producers build with this added flexibility.

@chrismessina Actually we recently got some of the Product Hunt team together and @alexcartaz and @nivo0o0 went on a "detour" (used correctly?) around SF and said it was interesting!
I'm not much of a sightsee-er though.
I remember @aplusk commenting on the earlier version how he enjoyed the fact that tech was also helping us back into the world instead of out of the world.
If you have not tried a Detour I would highly, highly recommend it. In my opinion, it is the best way to explore a new city.
@chrismessina I can't tell you how excited I am to try out a Choose Your Own Adventure detour. I hope there's one in LA as that looks like the closest city to San Diego with detours (in 2016). Also love the addition of alternative paths depending on operating hours and weather. Smart. Please keep innovating and expanding to more cities.
So, I'm in love with the idea of Detour (super history nerd) but just haven't found myself doing one yet. In your eyes, is there something that stands in the way of activation for folks like me? For myself, I thin it's a similar challeng to other local travel experience companies: I don't create the time to really experience my local area like a tourist
@preetnation I've done one — as a date night with my partner. 1.0 had a lot of tour purchasing problems which kind of marred the experience, but the intention was appreciated. I'm interested in trying 2.0 now that audio is synced between people on the tour... so, if you're looking for a unique date experience, go on a detour around sunset in San Francisco and then finish it off with a nice meal out. That's the way to motivate yourself to try it!
@chrismessina @preetnation now just need to convince my wife that the traffic to get into the city will be worth it =P
@preetnation Going on detours in San Francisco was the highlight of my trip and probably in the top 15 experiences I've ever had in my life. I am not exaggerating. It's incredibly immersive. It's like stepping into virtual reality and watching an interactive movie. Except you're in the real world. Please, please make the time to go on one. I promise that you won't regret it.
Like @chrismessina suggested, I got to my detours using Uber and Lyft.
