Congrats on the launch! I'm curious to know how you differentiate yourselves from DataCamp? What gaps did you see in their curriculum/teaching approach, and how do you fulfill those gaps? I'm curious to know since I'm an active DataCamp subscriber, and happily willing to switch.

@anant90 Hi Anant! I think there are quite a few differences between Dataquest and DataCamp, but the biggest one we hear about from students who've tried both is that our platform is more effective at getting students to really apply what they've learned. For example, I spoke with a student recently who said this: "I’ve done courses from the two platforms, DataCamp and Dataquest, and in my opinion I think Dataquest is much better because it makes you make an effort. On DataCamp, the code you have to write is almost already written for you, so you don’t learn too much. Dataquest makes you use your head and apply the things that you’re learning." Of course that's one person's opinion, but it's something we hear a lot from students who've spent time on both platforms. When I ask students about the differences between the two, I would say that is the most common answer I hear. Another big difference is that our Premium subscribers get access to free one-on-one career coaching for stuff like resume reviews, job interview prep, help negotiating salary, etc. As far as I know, DataCamp doesn't offer anything like this. Another big difference that students often mention is that we don't teach with videos. There are several reasons for this. One is that to work as a data scientist, you'll need to do a lot of reading about code — reading documentation, reading StackOverflow answers, etc. It's very rare (outside of education environments) to find the information you needed presented in video form. So we think it's valuable training and practice to get students used to learning by reading right from the beginning. Another reason is that we've found videos can sometimes lull you into a bit of a false sense of security - you watch someone explain something and think you understand it, but then you try to apply it in your own project later and realize you didn't really absorb enough to be able to use it. There are other differences too, of course, but I think those are some of the most commonly-mentioned ones that students bring up.

@charlie_custer Thanks for the detailed reply! "On DataCamp, the code you have to write is almost already written for you, so you don’t learn too much..." is a very valid criticism of DataCamp — something I fully agree with. Great to see Dataquest doing a better job here 💯

DataQuest is one of my most favorite websites dedicated to learning Python, R, Data Analysis and Machine Learning. It's a treasure trove of courses and tutorials. I love the way you present the information: after reading theory, I can move ahead to gaining practical skills which are incredibly valuable when you are learning something new. All the complex concepts are well explained - I can quickly grasp their meaning. Also, I'd like to note the quality of tutorials on the blog - they are detailed, comprehensive and user-friendly both to beginners and industry experts. Not only you can find there technical information but also important recommendations on career and self-development. All in all, it's a great place to deepen your knowledge in analytics and machine learning algorithms and get hands-on experience programming. Thank you for investing your time and resources in such a wonderful educational platform. Keep up the great work! @charlie_custer @bcdq @jaypeedevlin
