Watch this be a big trap to scrape everyone's passwords. 😛
It would also be helpful if this scanned for social security numbers and other sensitive information.
@rrhoover Was thinking the same thing. "Let me find out how vulnerable I am by letting a 3rd party scan my emails for passwords. I'm sure they won't tell anyone."
A nice thought, but I think I'll pass on this one.

Touché :). More seriously, security and privacy are the keys of everything we do at Dashlane and they are always our number 1 priority. For our password manager we don't even store our users master password so if you forget it, there is no way we can recover your access.
For Dashlane Inbox Scan, even though the analysis is done server side, no data is kept on our server and everything is deleted as soon as you leave the page. We don’t want to know anything about you, we don’t sell data, we sell a product, that’s what we believe in.
That being said, I understand the concern and the only thing I can tell you is that we have a lot to lose by not being careful about security and privacy when releasing this kind of things.
We built Inbox Scan as a cool educational tool to make people realize how easy it was to get sensitive information from their inbox. In most cases, we are able in one click to show you what is your favorite password + a list of all websites you have created an accounts on (which is a gold mine for hackers).
Dashlane, the password manager, knows a great deal about online security and passwords. Here, it offers you a quick overview of how safe your passwords are by scanning your inbox.
I personally suck at choosing passwords. I've been using 3 or 4 different passwords for years and according to Inbox Scan, I should be ashamed of my score :') I'll change that.
@shlomofellig Glad you like it! We initially perform a few searches to find emails that could have sensitive data, and only retrieve headers for such emails. We also only fetch text parts of emails body to further reduce the bandwidth usage.
I was lucky enough to be able to try this out a few days ahead of release, and it is a real eye-opener. I'm a long-time user of Dashlane, but this is a handy addition to its armory...
A really good addition to the core product. Too many websites are sending you clear password that you forget to trash instead of archive, I hope now my inbox will be even more secure!
I use a extension for storing my Password, it is scary at times, but i use 2FA at main account, so that is bit satisfying for me.
Ran this app despite it was risk. Result were fast.
That is actually a brilliant idea, a question is could you also do the same with FB messages scanning old messages to find people you might have shared a login with?
I think this is valuable for other details such as credit card or banking details, I see it as probably something great for sysadmins to check corporate email, but do wonder how many people would be open to plugging your platform into their corporate email systems.
My question would be can you make the security aspect more transparent and also examine items such as compliance with European Data Protection Directive?
But I bit the bullet and ran it against one of my private email accounts and the report is interesting.
