How it works:

1. Subscribe to Dash
2. Receive a design challenge every other week
3. Complete the challenge
4. Get feedback from top designers
5. Top submissions get connected to leading startups

TLDR; complete the challenge, get feedback and get hired!

This is a cool idea. Reminds me of @brianlovin's recent redesign projects (see his YouTube channel). Do you see this expanding to other functions (engineering, marketing, sales, etc.), @greg_isenberg?
Greg Isenberg
@rrhoover Thanks Ryan! hat's the plan, but wanted to start somewhere and in an area we know best (we're a product design agency).
Theo Richardson
@brianlovin @greg_isenberg @rrhoover we love Brian's crits! Dash is like crit but challenge-based, and free to anyone. The mission is to up-level designers and help get them hired!

Design exercises are highly controversial in the design field. A lot of people find them exploitive of their time and skills. How to you overcome that objection with your product considering your “sell” is basically no different than a designer doing an exercise in an interview process
Theo Richardson
@cat_hicks Great question! We feel that Dash provides a few unique opportunities for designers: - Get exposed to industry grade briefs (many early designers don't know what a comprehensive design brief looks like) - Get feedback (our team of product designers gives feedback on every submission) - Designers own 100% of the work they submit on Dash (we encourage designers to use their Dash submission in their portfolio!) - Get referred for jobs at top startups (we have a large network of leading startups that we send top candidates to from Dash)
Ryan Stone
Interesting concept. Who are the members giving the feedback on challenges, and what qualifies them as experts? Would also help to have success metrics as this scales (x amount of participants land jobs at affiliated startups).
Theo Richardson
@ryan_stone Good question and suggestion! The team at Dash consists mostly of members from Late Checkout, the leading design agency, studio, and fund founded by Greg (top comment here). We're a team of experienced designers from places like Airbnb, TikTok, Shopify, and Jira. We also have a lot of experience helping early designers grow in their careers due to the exposure they get through our agency. We're looking forward to sharing testimonials and success stories as Dash scales!
Ryan Stone
Another use case this could solve for is experienced designers looking for critique opportunities. Would be a cool network effect of reviewers -> submitters.
Ryan Stone
How might an expert designer participate as a reviewer, and showcase their review skills (ratings, # of completed reviews, etc)?
Theo Richardson
@ryan_stone Absolutely! Sounds like Brian Lovin's Crit product which Ryan referenced above. Our goal is to help designers grow in their craft and career by exposing them to industry grade briefs, giving them feedback on their work, and connecting them with top startups. Would love to connect them with other, more experienced designers too!

I do like it! Great idea to find designers. Congrats and good luck!

@a007mr Thank you for the kind words!

Hey PH! It is my pleasure to introduce you to Dash, an experiment that came out of Late Checkout's studio. Dash is a place for product designers to get hired at top startups. How it works: 1. Subscribe on Dash.Careers 2. Receive a design challenge every other week via email 3. Complete the challenge 4. Get feedback from top designers 5. Top submissions get connected to leading startups TLDR; complete the challenge, get feedback and get hired! Dash is 100% free to use, and you own 100% of the work you complete in Dashes. We want to give you an edge on your journey as a product designer by sending you industry grade briefs, giving you feedback on the challenges you complete, and referring you for jobs at top startups. The work you complete is yours, and only yours, to use however you want. We encourage you to display it in your portfolio. We feel that you could hone your skills and build your portfolio in isolation, or you could hone your skills and build your portfolio through Dash challenges where you have the potential to get hired at top startups. The choice is yours! Let us know in the comments if you have any questions, comments, or feedback, and check us out on twitter @dashcareers. Be well, Greg Isenberg

@dashcareers @greg_isenberg Now a designer that's getting started shouldn't have any more excuses to build their portfolio. 🙌 Congrats on the launch and great idea!
Theo Richardson
@dragos_bulugean Thank you for the kind words! By building their portfolio through Dash, designers are exposed to industry grade briefs, feedback from experts, and opportunities at top startups!
Jamie Stirrat
Love the idea. Design is often digital native so something portfolio based like FreeCodeCamp makes so much sense for designers. Would have used earlier in my design journey if it existed!
Theo Richardson
@jamesstirrat Thanks Jamie! Totally agreed that using a tool like Dash or FreeCodeCamp to build your portfolio makes a lot of sense. We're building in network effects to help product designers get hired!
Maria
Totally great! Congrats on realization of such a nice idea! It will be so much fun and so great improvement for designers! ^_^ Congrats on the launch! ^_^ I am looking forward to taking a part it Dash as well! *_*
