Hi, I’m the CTO at TinyStacks and I wanted to share why we built this. A few months ago, our cloud bill was out of control and we needed to bring it down. The problem was that we had thousands of resources I knew were unused, but it was a daunting task to verify each resource and delete it.
I looked through tools like aws nuke, but they were too destructive and not safe to use in the environments where they would save us the most money.
While nuke is a machete, the cost and utilization workflow is a scalpel. It uses metrics and access patterns to identify unused and underutilized resources and gives recommendations beyond deleting resources. With the same workflow, we were able to cut our bill by more than half!
It is vital for any organization using the cloud to regularly optimize costs. This procedure must be automated, and Cost and Utilization fits the bill!
