Crash is a job-hunting tool for ambitious career launchers. With powerful video pitches, a beautiful digital resume that shows your skills, hand-picked jobs, and more, Crash helps you stand out and win your job hunt—even without work experience.
Hey, Product Hunt!
I’m Isaac Morehouse, CEO of Crash. I’m thrilled to launch version 2.0 of our job-hunt platform here. We had a great response last year to the initial version, and we’ve learned a ton from early users.
Our mission at Crash remains the same: help people discover and do what makes them come alive. And the core idea is the same as well: find and win opportunities you didn’t think you could by showing—instead of telling. We like to say, “Be your own credential.”
What we've seen that means in the crowded world of “spray and pray” applications and resumes is to zig when others zag. Instead of generic resumes and cover letters, focus on higher quality, tailored, creative pitches to a few great companies.
We started Crash with robust talent profiles, which you can still create. But we found our users can get so much more bang for their buck by creating not just one big skills profile, but individually tailored video and project pitches for each company. So that's what this product update is all about.
And it works! Seekers are getting noticed and getting hired!
Crash makes it easy to create, send, and track tailored pitches. We’ve added a dashboard with hand-picked job recommendations for each user (not a big generic jobs board, but just a few great opportunities to really nail), and ramped up career guides, a job hunt playbook, feedback, and a Slack community.
I'd love to hear your feedback. We’re also looking for the next set of eager, motivated job seekers to join our closed beta of Crash 2.0. You’ll get total access to all features for free, our team will be available to you to help you win your job hunt in any way we can, and we'll get to learn from you how to make Crash the best job hunt platform in the world.
Happy hunting!
Isaac
Crash landed me several interviews for positions I'd have no chance of landing with a typical resume. Many of the interviewers told me as much—right before they told me that they liked my Crash pitch so much they wanted to interview me anyway.
The job I eventually landed wasn't because of a Crash pitch, but simply because of my profile. The company that hired me saw the profile I'd set up and decided to interview for a high-pressure marketing role, something with which I had zero experience. I ended up getting the job.
Highly, highly recommended, both for the product and the team behind it.
Hi Isaac. I am trying to just get another retail or customer service type job. Looking to become a strength and conditioning coach and already spending my time doing the required certificates and when coronavirus ends, getting experience of some type. With the idea of pitching companies, how can one do so especially if it's not my end goal?
@mfon_amana I think the same basic stuff applies:
-Be genuinely interested in the company/opportunity
-Show it in a way that can't be faked (send a pitch unique to them)
-Let them know your skills and show it with some kind of project or tangible proof
-Find the right person's email address, and send a pitch they can't ignore!
We've got lots of ideas and free resources at crash.co in the articles/guides section.
@isaacmorehouse but what if my interest in a company/opportunity doesn't go beyond my responsibilities, skills looking to enhance from such responsibility, have flexibility regarding break/meal periods so I can keep somewhat regular meal times and pay? It's just another transition until I leverage!
@mfon_amana If you approach any job only looking for what you can get - pay, hours, etc. - it's going to be harder to get the job, and less valuable to have it. Even for a "holdover" job, show interest, seek to create value, learn what you can, and don't treat it as beneath you!
@isaacmorehouse it's not that I treat jobs beneath me, it's just that I have the grit to enhance certain skills (e.g sales, customer service) in general but to really invest all my time, resources, intellectual capacity into a company that you either don't believe or agree with nor in a sector I'm not looking to get into is difficult.
Doesn't negate hard work, or following rules, or creating rapport with other employees or getting work done. I treat these transition jobs more like a non-sexual, no heavy strings attached relationship than a marriage or deep loving relationship
Crash works! We use it for our placement/job hunting process at Praxis and it's a game changer. It allows our participants to be proactive on the job market instead of passively submitting resumes. Every week Praxis participants on landing new job opportunities with the help of Crash.
It is a unique platform geared towards helping people get a job they want. Not just some random position at a company, with the Crash tool you can actually cater your application with a pitch. That can be made in different content ways, but in essence you can speak your truth to a company. Which makes them far more likely to respond positively.
Crash helped me land a job when I was pretty much at an all time low! I had just been laid off and needed a job—fast. I ended up finding multiple opportunities I was super excited about a few weeks into launching. Crazy how far some creativity will take you on the job market!
Crash turned what would have been a dreary job hunt into something fun.
It's not about spamming resumes, but approaching it like a project that you actually take seriously and thoughtfully.
It put me in a position of control. I was not at the mercy of resume reviewers, I was impressing them with a pitch tailored specifically to the organizations I wanted to work with.
Crash is not a silver bullet, but if you use it strategically you'll have a far better shot of getting a great job at an organisation you want to work at.
In February, we hired a entry-level marketing professional off of Crash to help us remotely. It was hands down the smoothest and best hiring process of any online platform we've ever experienced! We reviewed several candidates' pitches, contacted our favorite two, made an immediate human connection to both, and picked the best fit one for our team. All within a week! And she has been a rock star. We would have spent endless hours, days, weeks sorting through terrible Indeed resumes, working our own hiring funnel process, and interviewing. Isaac and his team at Crash are on to something BIG... just in time, given how many people will need to get back to work and fast. With any luck, Crash will help thousands of people find more purposeful, meaningful work, and create more value in the world. Bravo Crash, and thank you!
I am legitimately eager to recommend Crash to any/all peers who are stuck in the traditional job hunt cycle. Why wait for the interview to give companies some insight into who you are and how you can kick ass for them?
Crash helped me land interviews for positions that I was extremely unqualified for. At 17 and with no bachelor’s degree in hand I would have been turned down from every place I applied to if it weren’t for Crash and the tools they provide. Instead of rejection emails, I was receiving videos and emails back from higher-ups saying that they were excited to interview me and to “keep being awesome.”
The connections that you can make and opportunities that you can achieve through Crash are truly one of a kind.
I cannot suggest it enough.
I had been doing a pretty passive job exploration for a few months when I was laid off, along with a good chunk of the team (COVID-19 related). I used Crash to land my dream job as a Marketing Coordinator for a startup in less than 2 weeks. I'm unbelievably grateful for the Crash platform and how the tool helped me nail this new gig. In addition, the team behind the tool is unbelievably positive, helpful, and supportive. I highly recommend Crash to anybody currently job-searching or hoping for a better career path moving forward.
With Crash, I land interviews 80% of the time, with companies that I'd doubt think about me if I only sent a resume. Going deep and personalizing pitches takes extra work, but it's exciting, empowering, and worth it.
Not only have I coached dozens of people as they landed jobs using Crash, but I've seen the tool transform their mindset about landing a job.
No longer is it a boring process filled with apprehension. Instead, it's a learning experience where even the jobs you don't get become valuable parts of your career journey.
Highly recommend, whether you're at an entry level or have 10 years of experience!
Speaking from personal experience here. Crash works! Period.
There isn't a better way (or a better time) to take your career into your own hands, build a video pitch, and land a job you love!
@gregory_williamson1 love seeing and hearing about your career launch. excited for what's next for you—and grateful Crash got to be a part of your story!
As a "founding crasher" I can safely say they are transforming the hiring process one employee at a time. If you're looking to stand out, get noticed, and get your dream job - this is the platform for you!
Not gonna lie, this was the coolest way I've ever landed a job. Walking in, I had no clue about the tech industry or SaaS sales. Crashs' intuitive platform allowed me to showcase my work from my past experience and land an awesome job at a tech startup! This is the future of resumes.
Crash is an amazing platform that is helping me to show my skills to the world while I'm job hunting. Their team is incredible; their customer service experience is one of the best ones I have ever received. They're always willing to help me and ask me if I need assistance with their platform before I ask. I've also received great responses from hiring managers, saying that they enjoyed reviewing my videos and pitches.
@eliana_rose_b_ Thank you for the kind words! Definitely proud of our team and our customer service.
Job hunting is hard and there aren't any silver bullets, but it's amazing how much farther you can get with just a few different tools and approaches. We're doing our best to make that as easy as we can!
Writing a resume had to have been one of the most excruciating. things. ever.
Making my crash profile has been a blast. An opportunity to sprinkle in some personality and color into an otherwise gray bureaucratic document.
I can't wait to tailor some pitches to employers and show them what I have because it feels like Crash lifted a huge weight off my shoulders and is allowing me to run.
Crash is top-tier when it comes to job hunting. They’re also one of the few brands empowering their users with a different approach to job hunting that actually gets your applications noticed.
