Contra's first ever product launch for hiring! We're an independent-first team driven by the belief that anyone can work the way they want. Now we're releasing the product we wish we all had – and then we built – everything companies need to hire the way they want. On Contra, companies can grow, manage and pay a team of flexible talent (freelancers, contractors, fractional) and scale their capabilities beyond limits. A win-win for both independent talent and companies 🤝 I've personally used the product to hire incredible experts for +20 projects and it's become an integral part of how I manage brand and creative work. This one is a long time in the making (it's Contra's 3 year anniversary!) but it's only just the beginning: a launchpad for so much more to come.

I'll be honest — working with incredible fractional talent has been a missed opportunity...until recently. We've started using Contra Teams across ODF and it's incredibly exciting to get to coordinate our collaborations with talented freelancers. When I was pitched the vision for Contra for the first time, I was hooked -- it was exactly the product I would want to use myself as a long-time freelancer. It's surreal to look back on the last 3 years since our first launch and see how that vision has been made reality. We've come so far and learned so much from our community of over 700k independents and over 20k clients strong. We've built global payments, proposal and invoicing tools, and the best way to showcase and discover independent talent -- just to name a few. So...what's next? 👇 Today, we're introducing Contra for Companies, the next chapter in Contra's story, where we've reimagined how clients hire and manage their network of independents to scale their flexible teams. As we've scaled Contra, we've seen firsthand how challenging it is to manage flexible talent, and took it upon ourselves to build the product we'd want to use -- and we do! We partnered with some aspirational companies to get early feedback on the product, and have spent the last while polishing it for you all today. So much effort has gone into this drop, so I want to take a moment to shoutout the entire Contra team for banding together and making it happen. There are no words! 🤩

Might be wrong, but there seems to be quite a few platforms/marketplaces like this in the market. I've never been a user personally, but would be interesting to hear what the differentiated value is?

Super exciting--what makes Contra better than products like Deel or Upwork for companies to hire with?

Contra is where it is today due to the 40+ independents we work with every month (discovered, hired, and managed through Contra, of course). It wasn’t always easy to source talent, manage our network, process global payments, generate and store contracts and invoices, handle tax and compliance and have visibility across how and who our team was hiring, but today this has changed. Contra for Companies has unlocked the ability for our team to scale, and now other teams can achieve the same. Without our independent workforce, we wouldn’t have all of our landing pages, 24hr support coverage, social media content and engagement, marketing assets, blog articles, and so much more! Using Contra has personally saved me a tremendous amount of time and many headaches. The efficiencies of using Contra has given me more time to focus on other areas of the business. I know I am not the only person that feels this way on our team. I am proud to work on a product that not only supports independents to find amazing projects and clients to discover and manage the best talent but a product that I love using every single day.

Since the beginning, hiring flexible talent ourselves has been a part of how we work. “Who did we work with to design the website for the podcast? Can you send me their email?” — a message that I dug up this morning from a past colleague; we worked together on a lot of projects, and regularly hired designers, engineers and UX researchers for fractional work. Maintaining our network of Independent talent, their availability, rates, preferred tools, etc, etc, was *so* tedious that we simply never got around to documenting it. Working this way in agency and consultancy environments made sourcing Independents for project based work a more time intensive and scattered experience than it needed to be. Many of the relationships established throughout the years were maintained in emails, discord channels, or slack without simple access for the rest of our team—Contra for Companies solves these problems for you and your team. Contra for Companies marks a moment in Contra’s history—our first product launch for *hiring* Independents.
