Commons is a voice-first communication platform that recreates an office-like environment. It’s super easy to use: Login with Slack. Tap to talk. See the team on 1 screen. Record, transcribe, and assign action items.
I can see this helpful for internal marketing at companies:
- org changes
- strategy updates
- office hours
Audio makes us more liberated to setup as we want and tune in!
@amanik yes, those are definitely some key use cases! The more common (no pun) are questions/problems that come throughout the day that’s better discussed verbally but also not formal enough to schedule a call for.
@nikkielizdemere yes! Those informal interactions we have all day long in the office are needed in the distributed context, now more than ever! As we say, "small talk is big talk" in the work place :)
My co-founder and I have been testing commons for a few weeks and it's been awesome. It gives us a really nice way to drop into rooms and have a great place talk about a project or work together on notes.
@joeblau heck yea! We think it's so powerful to be able to do 'drop into rooms' as you say, and get some of the serendipity back in the work environment 🎼
It's been amazing see the pace of iteration from this team. I really love their approach and I am excited to see how this product continues to evolve and grow
Pretty cool how much a difference it makes to remove the friction of starting a conversation and to remove the gravity of an audio call
Killer use case is simoly working on something with other people and only speaking here and there. Subtle but huge
Commons has made such a huge difference for our remote team. We've tried a bunch of different products that make "informal chats" more seamless and Commons is the first one we've come across that feels natural and net-positive, not forced. Audio is often > text, so we're huge fans over here.
@ashitaa Great Q! Most of our customers are teams that do a lot of interactive collaboration throughout the day. They use Commons as their primary real-time communication platform.
Key use cases include:
> Answer quick Qs that only require a brief chat
> Standups and post-meeting huddles,
> ‘drop-in’, water-cooler chats
🤙 Hello! We’re excited to launch Commons, your private Clubhouse where your co-workers collaborate and connect.
Remember what it was like to talk to your teammates without having to schedule a meeting? These ‘tap on the shoulder chats’ are how we solve problems, share ideas, and connect.
Unfortunately, this is nearly impossible for distributed teams. Hence we all have Zoom fatigue. 😕
This is why we built Commons. 🚀
Today, 100s of teams from from small startups to large enterprises use Commons to:
✅ Answer quick Qs that require a brief chat
✅ Host daily stand-ups and post-meeting ‘parking lot’ convos
✅ Coordinate for launch days
✅ Drop-in for water-cooler chats
How is Commons different from what you’re doing now?
🔉 Talking is 7-10X faster than typing
⏳ Short n sweet, with most convos less than 4 mins (v. 30 min cal blocks)
🚫 We all have Zoom fatigue. Audio has less friction than video.
Here’s how it works
1. Login with Slack
2. Install our Slack app
3. Invite your team
4. Tap to talk
5. Share your screen, create a room, share notes, and more.

@pattyjburns It's been so neat to see how the product has evolved over the past year. Love how simple it is for any team to get started with this and the little, but thoughtful nuances, that make it so seamless to use! Reminds me of a modern walkie-talkie 👏
@pattyjburns This looks super helpful in improving how we stay connected without adding more meetings the calendar. Do you offer the ability to record the call for those that missed it?
Commons is a really great solution for teams on Slack that want a really fast way to do break-out meetings and ad-hoc conversations. It has a super intuitive interface and captures the ability to easily meet in small teams after standup.
I've been using this product with my team for a few weeks and really enjoy it. I think of it as audio slack - great for informal checkins, social chats, quick questions, polling the team on something, etc. It recreates the feeling of sitting in a cluster of desks and asking people a quick Q.
@chinolex_ Good Q. We support video as well, but in an earlier version of the product we realized that many conversations would start with video off. We’re hyper focused on speed, so we thought - maybe we can go faster by just having audio only as the default. So we kept it. And it’s indeed faster--but also more informal!
If you’re like many distributed workers today, you’re deep in Zoom fatigue. What I like about Commons is that it’s audio-first and super lightweight. Plus, it enables those informal interactions that are sorely missing in today’s distributed work setup. Can’t wait to see where this team takes the product in the coming months.
