Commons is a voice-first communication platform that recreates an office-like environment. It’s super easy to use: Login with Slack. Tap to talk. See the team on 1 screen. Record, transcribe, and assign action items.

Love this team! Excited to try this out
Patrick Burns
@mlymat thank you! Your feedback along the way has been sooooo clutch 🙏
Aman Manik
I can see this helpful for internal marketing at companies: - org changes - strategy updates - office hours Audio makes us more liberated to setup as we want and tune in!
Patrick Burns
@amanik yes, those are definitely some key use cases! The more common (no pun) are questions/problems that come throughout the day that’s better discussed verbally but also not formal enough to schedule a call for.

Awesome! 🥰 It could be great for distributed teams looking to bring back the water-cooler chat.
Patrick Burns
@nikkielizdemere yes! Those informal interactions we have all day long in the office are needed in the distributed context, now more than ever! As we say, "small talk is big talk" in the work place :)
Joe Blau
My co-founder and I have been testing commons for a few weeks and it's been awesome. It gives us a really nice way to drop into rooms and have a great place talk about a project or work together on notes.
Patrick Burns
@joeblau heck yea! We think it's so powerful to be able to do 'drop into rooms' as you say, and get some of the serendipity back in the work environment 🎼
Joe Fernandez
It's been amazing see the pace of iteration from this team. I really love their approach and I am excited to see how this product continues to evolve and grow
Nazan Kurt
@joefernandez Thank you so much for your on point feedback while we got here! Lucky to have you in Commons community!

Pretty cool how much a difference it makes to remove the friction of starting a conversation and to remove the gravity of an audio call Killer use case is simoly working on something with other people and only speaking here and there. Subtle but huge
Patrick Burns
@jayyeh thank you! Your product and fundraising feedback along the way was HUGE!
Stacey Ferreira
Yay! This version looks great - love that it uses login with slack and has that plugin too!
Patrick Burns
@staceyferreira yea! Your early feedback was super helpful in making this decision :)

Commons has made such a huge difference for our remote team. We've tried a bunch of different products that make "informal chats" more seamless and Commons is the first one we've come across that feels natural and net-positive, not forced. Audio is often > text, so we're huge fans over here.
Patrick Burns
@treysisson 🔑🔑 Yes, talking is 7-10X faster than typing! Thanks a ton for your early feedback!

What types of use cases are using Commons currently?
Patrick Burns
@ashitaa Great Q! Most of our customers are teams that do a lot of interactive collaboration throughout the day. They use Commons as their primary real-time communication platform. Key use cases include: > Answer quick Qs that only require a brief chat > Standups and post-meeting huddles, > ‘drop-in’, water-cooler chats
Dwayne Samuels
Im in love with Commons, it’s like having your entire team with you wherever you go!
Patrick Burns
@dwaynesamuels yea!! That's core to our vision, so it's so validating to hear you feel that way!

🤙 Hello! We’re excited to launch Commons, your private Clubhouse where your co-workers collaborate and connect. Remember what it was like to talk to your teammates without having to schedule a meeting? These ‘tap on the shoulder chats’ are how we solve problems, share ideas, and connect. Unfortunately, this is nearly impossible for distributed teams. Hence we all have Zoom fatigue. 😕 This is why we built Commons. 🚀 Today, 100s of teams from from small startups to large enterprises use Commons to: ✅ Answer quick Qs that require a brief chat ✅ Host daily stand-ups and post-meeting ‘parking lot’ convos ✅ Coordinate for launch days ✅ Drop-in for water-cooler chats How is Commons different from what you’re doing now? 🔉 Talking is 7-10X faster than typing ⏳ Short n sweet, with most convos less than 4 mins (v. 30 min cal blocks) 🚫 We all have Zoom fatigue. Audio has less friction than video. Here’s how it works 1. Login with Slack 2. Install our Slack app 3. Invite your team 4. Tap to talk 5. Share your screen, create a room, share notes, and more. 🎉 Special deal for Product Hunters: Get 3 months free (~$200+ value)! Sign up now -- offer only available this week. Our mission is to make work feel more connected. We're a product-focused team that has previously worked on social and enterprise collaboration at Snap, Microsoft, and Google. Thanks for the support and we invite you to join us in helping make work feel more connected.

@pattyjburns this is awesome team! congratulations 👏
Shabih Rizvi
@pattyjburns It's been so neat to see how the product has evolved over the past year. Love how simple it is for any team to get started with this and the little, but thoughtful nuances, that make it so seamless to use! Reminds me of a modern walkie-talkie 👏
Patrick Burns
@shabihr 🔊 Yes, it's like a walkie-talkie for your remote office!
Tyler Swartz
@pattyjburns This looks super helpful in improving how we stay connected without adding more meetings the calendar. Do you offer the ability to record the call for those that missed it?
Patrick Burns
@bochkovaleks thank you!
Daniel McAuley
I plan to work remotely for the foreseeable future. I expect this is going to play a big part in that!
Patrick Burns
@dmca yea! Love the perspective you bring to the use case as a data science leader. Very insightful as we build for different personas ).
Marcus Moretti
Love the idea of virtual rooms that you can easily move in and out of. Can't wait to try it out with my team
Patrick Burns
@mwmoretti right on! Can't wait to hear your feedback!

Patrick Burns
@lobenja thank you!

Commons is a really great solution for teams on Slack that want a really fast way to do break-out meetings and ad-hoc conversations. It has a super intuitive interface and captures the ability to easily meet in small teams after standup.
Patrick Burns
@zencephalon Thank you! Your product feedback has been super helpful, especially coming from a fellow founder :).
Sydney Liu
Congrats on the launch @pattyjburns this looks amazing!!
Patrick Burns
@sydney_liu_sl thank you!

I've been using this product with my team for a few weeks and really enjoy it. I think of it as audio slack - great for informal checkins, social chats, quick questions, polling the team on something, etc. It recreates the feeling of sitting in a cluster of desks and asking people a quick Q.
Patrick Burns
@mikedibenedetto 🎯 >> "recreates the feeling of sitting in a cluster of desks and asking people a quick Q."
Chino Lex
Great job Patrick and team! Why audio-first?
Patrick Burns
@chinolex_ Good Q. We support video as well, but in an earlier version of the product we realized that many conversations would start with video off. We’re hyper focused on speed, so we thought - maybe we can go faster by just having audio only as the default. So we kept it. And it’s indeed faster--but also more informal!
Manlio Lo Conte
Connection and quick interactions is a huge problem for teams as we go more and more remote. Really excited to see Commons take a swing at this!
Patrick Burns
@mloco Thank you! It was sooooo helpful to get your early feedback on our previous versions! 🙏🙏
Kevin William David
If you’re like many distributed workers today, you’re deep in Zoom fatigue. What I like about Commons is that it’s audio-first and super lightweight. Plus, it enables those informal interactions that are sorely missing in today’s distributed work setup. Can’t wait to see where this team takes the product in the coming months.
Patrick Burns
@kevin thank you! and appreciate the hunt! 🙏
