This might be more useful than cnn.com. ✔ Faster to load ✔ No ads ✔ Easy to scan

@rrhoover By the way npr has a similar Lite version: http://thin.npr.org/. What I really hate about the news sites is the auto-playing videos - perhaps a news aggregator can be built that would crawl, extract and display news snippet in text-only format!

Seriously ? I'm all for speedy but not to take the visual experience back to web 99. Throw some basic font love on this and make it enjoyable.

@dnlbtlr I think this is designed for edge cases where even loading a font may cause problems. Think using a pay as you go phone with a crappy web browser in the middle of nowhere.
Daniel Butler
@treggify sure but blue underlined links ?!
Josh Holloway
@treggify @dnlbtlr Does that really matter? It's completely and totally functional.

I wish every publisher would do this

Is this an official CNN product?

Any chance we can get some additional color options that are easier on the eyes?

Pros:

Great lo-fi solution

Cons:

Needs a dark mode

It's like WAP pages back in the day - super lightweight and limited styling.

This is something similar to Twitter Lite that will save data consumption on your mobile.

Pros:

It is lite and low bandwidth. Easier to read content on the go

Cons:

No images/media

I wish more websites would be like this. So many sites bloated and distracting.

CNN can be such a pain to load; most of the time, on slower connections. Got this bookmarked, thanks!

Wow I might actually read CNN now. I get sensory overload from their original site/tv station.

This beats the NY Times redesign announcement #actuallyreadable

I always wondered if there's anything as simple as this. Glad to see it here.

And this, my friends, is why I'm building my start-up (a citizen journalism platform) without images. I honestly believe that users want to see as much content as possible without all the poo hah. Nice find!

The fact there are no images is actually refreshing. CSS is dead!

even though is quite lite, you can still make it mobile friendly, adding some small css tweaks

Pros:

Great Idea

Cons:
