This is a great update — and adds support for the Chrome Manifest v3, which has been a long time coming and changes things for extension devs. It also lands just as Apple is getting more serious about cross-platform extensions for Safari!

About a year ago, I released the initial version of Chrome Extension Kit with one goal in mind: make it easier for anyone, experienced or not, to build and launch Chrome Extensions. Traditionally, a lot of the initial time spent on extension development is manifest and environment setup, so I wanted to remove that hurdle with a series of common starting points. Since it's release, I have received a ton of great feedback and have added more React and basic starter templates, as well as example extensions. Most importantly, I fully upgraded all starter templates and example extensions to support Manifest V3, which represents one of the biggest shifts in the extensions platform in about a decade. Starter types include content scripts, browser actions, new tab overrides, browser storage, and more. 🎉 4 Fully Functional Example Extensions Source code of four fully functional and feature complete Chrome extensions for reference or inspiration, including extensions currently live in the web store with thousands of active users. 🎉 Publishing & Audience Building Ebook Explains how to use the kit and the example extensions, a guide on prepping your extension for production and publishing to the web store, and tips and tricks on growing your extension.
