Hey Product Hunters! 👋 I'm Scott, co-founder and CEO of Chatterbug (and previously, GitHub cofounder). Today I'm happy to announce the launch of a new language learning app, Chatterbug Streams. This product came out of frustration with all the language flashcard-type apps out there. They're boring (even when gamified), robotic and not helpful in real life situations where a real human sounds nothing like what you practice. Language is more fun to learn and sticky when you learn it from real people talking about stories, culture and real topics, not rearranging words into the correct sentence order. Our Streams app is different than all other mobile language learning apps. We have a Peloton/Apple Fitness+ like library of hundreds of interactive streamed videos helping you learn French, German or Spanish with new live episodes every day. Learn a language with a mobile app different than anything else: 🗣️ Real human language: Learn a language the way you'll hear it in the real world, spoken by native speakers in context. 💡 Interactive: Every stream has interactive quizzes to participate and engage with the streamer, as well as the ability to chat with other students and our language experts. 📈 All levels: Unlike nearly every other language learning mobile app, our content runs from total beginner to advanced content. Break out of the Duolingo beginner plateau. 📱 On the go: Watch live or recorded streams at any time in 10-15 minute chunks. Learn on the train, at your level, with a live-streaming native speaker. We're launching with early-bird pricing, but there are already hundreds of videos in 3 languages (French, Spanish, German) and dozens more live streamed every week. Would love to answer any questions!

Looks great guys, finally an app covering different levels and staying interactive all the way! One question though: I don't know how much using the app daily would cost, but don't you fear it would drive away people wanting to learn a new language at the lowest possible price?
Scott Chacon
@rubenwolff It's a good question. If people want video content without interactivity or community and are willing to spend a lot of time finding content, you can certainly do that for free on YouTube or something else. We're trying to produce high quality content that's very specifically leveled and curated for you for what I think is a very reasonable price. With the early bird pricing we have now, it's unlimited usage for $20 per year, which is like $1.60 a month. So, hopefully learners will feel that's a good compromise for the quality and time we save.

I really love this product. Thank you for building and coming up with such a good idea. I always had trouble learning new languages in school, but with streams it‘s easy, fun and interactive. It‘s a captivating app!

I definetely need that!

@nataliekarakina Viel Glück! I'm learning German with Streams too, so hopefully I'll see you in chat. :)

Great stuff. Super happy to see where Chatterbug is coming from and where it goes. This is totally in line with a new generation of learners who are used to Twitch like formats. You are definitely catering to those. How is this connected to the "traditional" Chatterbug offering in the app?
Scott Chacon
@bastien_allibert Thanks for the question. The streams are actually all based around specific units in our live lessons curriculum, so at some point you can use these videos to study for a 1:1 tutoring lesson around the same unit topic. We think that this will be a powerful way to study - watch a number of live or recorded videos with quizzes around a topic, then be able to practice that same topic with a 1:1 tutor.
