Iβve been beta testing Canvas for iOS for several monthsβitβs totally π―. @soffes has been doing awesome work on it. Itβs a great Markdown editor, and takes advantage of so many great iOS features (keyboard shortcuts, 3D Touch, gestures, etc). Just get Canvas. ππ»
@jmsaponaro I don't want to make promises I can't keep so I won't say soon but we believe that version control and suggestions are essential to collaborate on long lived documents.
I have been part of the beta since the start, and used the web app since its initial launch. It's the best Markdown editor IMHO, and I hope it gets the popularity it deserves ! Congrats on launching the iOS app :)
Canvas co-founder here. Thanks for hunting, @jdsimcoe. We are really excited to launch Canvas for iOS. If you want to read more about the app check out: https://blog.usecanvas.com/canva...
Looking forward to the (hopefully) invevitable Trello integration.
I need somewhere to store my notes once they exceed the size limit for a card's description & being able to copy my notes into Canvas, with their formatting, is ideal.
Looks neat. We've launched something similar over a weekend once upon a time: www.enterprisewiki.co but didn't seen enough traction to keep working at it. Hope this does better.
@ak102 So cool! We used www.enterprisewiki.co at Heroku for years. Every Monday morning we would type out our sprint planning together. That's why we now have a Sprint Planning template in Canvas. Loved the simplicity of Enterprise Wiki.
I'm curious if the name was sarcasm given how beautifully simple it was? Or did you chose it to have room to expand...
@mschoening actually SEO was the reason for domain name choice ;-) it's a hack whereby you later re-brand to a proper name, but in the meantime you can get some links to "enterprise wiki" and see if any large companies start using it. We had a team at Bloomberg use it for a while as well. It's an interesting space but Dropbox Paper is probably the best product out there currently.
Been following and using Canvas for the past few weeks after seeing @soffes tweet about it earlier this year, and it's slowly becoming part of my daily workflow. Super exciting to see it come to iOS - going to put it through its paces over the weekend. Great work all βπ»
@ourielohayon Good question. When we set out to build Canvas we wanted a simpler tool that doesn't have as many toolbars, options, and settings as Google Docs did. Further we wanted our documents to be more portable (you can simply append .json, .md, or .html to any Canvas and get the raw content out). It's mostly a subjective feeling but when you're in Google Docs...you're in Google Docs. π
We're proud of the simple collaborative note taking app we've built so far but obviously we're working on things we can't yet talk about to differentiate us even further from Google Docs and other similar products.
Been using canvas for months now, and it's my goto spot for notes at work. I'm a big fan of markdown, and I love how canvas is nearly UI-less. It's perfect for me, simple, super fast to load, and easy to collaborate with my coworkers.
I absolutely love Canvas. It's exactly the kind of tool I always wanted Google Docs to be, and I've seen all kinds of awesome improvements out of the team.
