Good to see you PH community! Iβm Rejah, co-founder of Beagle Security.
The internet has forever changed the way we work & live our everyday lives.
We all visit a ton of websites in a day. And these are websites where we end up giving up our email addresses, sign up for an account, make purchases and what not.
But has it ever crossed your mind how secure would these sites be?
We are hardly concerned about it until something inevitable happens.
At Beagle Security, we want to change things for good today - giving you the ability to get a prior understanding of any website's security and that too, right from your browser.
Iβm beyond excited to share our latest free tool β Beagle Security: Free website security assessment browser extension with all of you.
With the extension you can get a preliminary understanding of a website's security and easily know:
β Security score of any website
β Passed and failed vulnerability checks
β SSL certificate and domain details along with their expiry date
All of it for free. π
I'll be hanging around here all day, so if you have any questions or suggestions feel free to drop a comment.
And I hope that we leave you at a better place when it comes to surfing the web more confidently. Thanks, and looking forward to your valuable feedback!
Cheers,
Rejah & Beagle Security team
@rejah Congrats on your launch! This is a cool release, this day & age when people are really more active in terms of safeguarding not only their security, but their kids and family security/privacy, this is important.
Great idea and great name :) I have worked in the space of cyber security on a cooperation level and am always interested in solitons that focus on βend consumersβ so itβs great to see this here. What do you think are the biggest threats for users you are solving and also do you think itβs a challenge to communicate the importance of cyber security to people who might not have the strongest technical background?
Good luck with this!
@janine_nitz Thanks for the support!
The biggest threat we're solving would definitely be the indifference to the security of the site that users visit. We feel with such an easy-to-use tool, people would find it easier to check the security and therefore wouldn't find the process a hassle. For example, while SSL certificate isn't the first thing(or the 50th) we pay attention to while visiting a website, utilizing an easy-to-use tool such as this one would hopefully allow people to make checking the SSL certificate at least a top 5 priority.
As far as communicating the importance of cybersecurity, we feel it's becoming a bit more easier maybe due to more and more news popping up about the big names being victims to cybersecurity attacks. "If the big names with all the resources in the world are susceptible to such attacks then the layman would be too" is a thought we're seeing on the rise. While the technical reasons may not be evidently understood by them, people are starting to grasp that cybersecurity is crucial, especially in the online world we're moving towards.
Also do give us your feedback.π
@rejah thanks for the detailed reply! Super interesting space and couldn't agree more with the points you brought forward. Cyber threats are getting covered more and more in the news, so people will hopefully begin to grasp the importance.
Will do.. Just installed the browser extension :)
@isha_varma07 Thanks for the support!
While we are in the cybersecurity space we do not provide an antivirus solution. Beagle Security is focused on Web Application security and it's adjacent fields. This includes solutions to securing your web apps, APIs and more. Do checkout beaglesecurity.com to know more about us.
Awesome Rejah!
Will you building a feedback system in the future, where users who visit certain websites can rate them from a scale of 1-10 in terms of security while they were using the product? For example, what kind of weblinks do I get redirected to when I click on ads or what number of accidental clicks sends me to an advert page that is extremely fishy?
@atharva_salokhe Thanks for the support!
This is definitely a great idea. We will definitely try to integrate a voting or feedback option into our tool.
This is good. It is very similar to the service that SSL Labs offers on their website. The difference is that the Beagle Security tool is a browser extension, so it is more versatile and practical. The Beagle Security results are less thorough than the SSL Labs results, but SSL Labs is too slow for frequent use.
The use case is different between the two tools. SSL Labs is really only good for debugging your own website. The Beagle Security tool is to answer the question "Is this site grossly insecure and not worth trusting with my data?"
