More and more people are working from home these days, and work-life balance is becoming an increasingly important topic. Without work-life balance, work and life start to blend together, which can lead to burnout. Balance is an app that hopes to solve that.

Happy Holidays, Product Hunt! 🎄✨ Over the last few months, I’ve been working on an app to help those who struggle with work-life balance—something I think many of us can relate to these days. After some time in Beta, I’m excited to finally launch Balance! 🚀 Balance is essentially a time tracking app but with a focus on work-life balance, with features including… → Manual clocking system that helps you mentally check in and out of work → Regular break reminders → Focus timer, for those who like the Pomodoro Technique → ...and more! The app is free to use, but there are some optional Pro features for those who get value from the app and want more. Currently, the only Pro feature (other than supporting an indie developer ❤️) is a log that allows you to track and evaluate your sessions over time. I have plenty of other exciting features planned, including app/website blocking, goals, time categorization, improved history, and much more—some of which will only be available with Balance Pro. Balance has already helped me and many others improve our work-life balance. I hope you (or maybe someone you know?) will like it too! 🙏 Are you struggling with work-life balance as well? Think Balance or something else could help? Let me know! 😊👇

@alexandberg it seems like Balance is a helpful tool that can benefit many people looking to improve their work-life balance and productivity. It would be nice to see detailed analytics in the apps, that is what I lack in toggl track and other time tracking apps
Alexander Sandberg
@artkulakov Thanks, Art! Currently, you can track things like total session time, latest clock-out, longest sessions, average break time per hour, etc. per week. I have plans on expanding this by adding more metrics as well as making it possible to view it over months and years as well, and making it more visual. Please let me know if there are any specific metrics you're looking for, and I will put them on my list. 😊
Art Kulakov
@alexandberg It would be nice to measure "focus" during the day somehow, for this I believe the app would have to access the PC to monitor clicks and different actions performed
Alexander Sandberg
@artkulakov The focus timer in Balance is also measured by "total focus time" if used. However, this is not tracked automatically by design, like with the clocking system, to make you more mindful and conscious about it. If the demand is there, I will definitely consider adding more automatic session tracking, but I don't think this is very good for work-life balance/mindfulness of your sessions.
Art Kulakov
@alexandberg I Agree, I just use this type of apps to squeeze the most out of my day; I am too young to care about work-life balance ;)
Khasan
Congrats on the launch! Who is your target audience so far? Company workers or individuals (freelancers)?
Alexander Sandberg
@haserk Thanks, Khasan! 🙂 The target audience is basically anyone who spends a lot of time working on their computers. I think the app's features can be equally useful to both company workers and individuals—and everyone else. There are no team features (yet, at least) though, so it might not be for those looking to track time among company employees, as some apps allow.

work life balance issues are so unrated in Asian countries. apps like these really help. great work guys! congrats on the launch! can't wait to use the app!
Alexander Sandberg
@shankarling_kalashetty It's just me—an indie dev—but thank you, Shankarling! 😊 And yes, work-life balance is not taken seriously enough!
Louis Lafont
Love Balance. Using it every day for 2 months. I like the simplicity of it and how out of the way it is
Alexander Sandberg
@dot_louis Thank you for beta testing and providing feedback, Louis. ❤️ Happy you find Balance useful!
Akash N. Patel, DPT
Excellent concept! This is a perfect addition in a trend where people are having this discussion more often
Alexander Sandberg
@anpdpt Thanks a lot, Akash. Yes, work-life balance awareness is definitely on the rise. I hope Balance can help too, as it's an important topic.
Alina Berezhanskaya

Congrats on the launch. When are you likely to launch an Android version?
Alexander Sandberg
@patrick_udeh Thanks, Patrick! Sadly not anytime soon, sorry. I'm planning on releasing a mobile version at some point, but it will only be iOS, to begin with. Let's see what the future holds though! 🙂
Billy Chamos
Really like the UI and the simplicity of your work. Amazing that you made this on your own! Congratulations!!
Alexander Sandberg
@vasilis_chamos Thanks, Billy! 😊 Many more features and improvements to come too!
Louis Dupont
Just tested it today, and it is exactly what I hoped for. A simple visual interface, and a great concept, very simple but efficient. I found myself actually thinking more proactively about focusing and resting than I was before. I will keep using it for some time, to see where it goes, but so far I am convinced! Congrats @alexandberg ! 👏
Alexander Sandberg
@louis_dupont Thank you very much for the nice comment, Louis! 😊 Happy you like Balance!
Shanu
Congratulations team!! What makes it different from other product?
Alexander Sandberg
@shanu_23 The team is just me—an indie dev—but thanks a lot, Shanu! What differentiates Balance from other time tracking apps is that your work-life balance is the core value. Many apps try to maximize productivity, not health. Balance does a lot of what other time tracking apps do, but with your work-life balance in mind.
Jason Lee
@shanu_23 @alexandberg wow Are you the only one developing it? you are really good!!
Alexander Sandberg
@jason_lee_3282 Yup, it's just me! Thank you. ☺️
Drea Scott
Amazing! Its essential to manage your work life, thank you for launching such great product. I will definitely try it out.
Alexander Sandberg
@drea_scott Thank you for the nice comment, Drea! I hope you will like Balance. 😊
Manas Sharma
@alexandberg Congrats on the launch. The app looks amazing. Gonna try it out soon. ✌️
Alexander Sandberg
@manas_sharma Thanks, Manas! Let me know how it goes! 🙂
Anna H
I have been using this app for the past few weeks as a beta user and it's amazing how user-friendly and simple it is! Balance helped me to obtain a better work-life-balance by reminding me to take breaks (very important if you work a lot at the computer!) and providing a focus mode (similar to the Pomodoro technique) whenever I need it. Pretty hyped about the clean and minimalistic design, too! Will definitely continue to use it!
Alexander Sandberg
@anna_h4 Thank you for the kind words, Anna! 😊 I'm glad to hear Balance has helped you! 🙏

Bjarn Bronsveld

Alexander Sandberg
@bjarnbronsveld I'm glad you like it, Bjarn! ☺️
Isaac Yeo
Very aptly named, love it! I am wondering how the break reminders are calibrated(at what intervals?)
Alexander Sandberg
@isaac_yeo Thanks, Isaac! 😊 Bread reminders are based on a customizable interval that defaults to 60 minutes.
