BackPack is a Discord bot that transforms images and videos into songs. It creates songs about what it sees in an image or a video you send to it. You can customize the songs by mentioning a genre, vibe (e.g funny, calm) and details about the image/video.

Hi Product Hunt! I'm Stefan, founder of BackPack. I'm super excited to share with you what I've been building over the last month. 🎵 About BackPack BackPack is a Discord bot that converts images and videos into songs. In short, it allows you to: - Send between 1-3 images in a Discord command and get back a song about what the images show. - Send a video that's 3-30 seconds in length and receive a song about the video. - Specify a genre, vibe (funny, calm, melancholic, etc.), and details about the image/video that you'd like to include in the song. For now, the bot works only in the BackPack Discord server, but I'm planning a web app and more features in the near future. Also, the bot is completely free, although there's a limit of 10 songs per hour for each user until I scale the service (which will happen in the next couple of weeks). 📖 BackPack's Story A couple of months ago, I was working on a completely different idea: a player-vs-player app where users compete with each other to see who can get more likes on TikTok. The plan was to launch at local universities and have each student compete on behalf of their uni. Suffice to say, the project was too complex, and it would have taken me months to validate the idea. I came up with the current version of BackPack after struggling to find the ideal music to add to my memes. I wished someone would build this, so I decided to do it myself. ⭐ Goals My main goal with this launch is to get at least 100 people to create their first song with BackPack and get their feedback about: - Any new features they'd like to see. - Any specific use cases they have in mind. That's a wrap! Jump on the Discord server and create your first song with BackPack today: https://discord.com/invite/7Zyau...

This seems like a fun tool. I'm going to test it with the boys tonight

Hey Stefan, How accurate would you say the generated songs are in capturing the essence of the images/videos? Do you have plans to expand beyond Discord in the future? Congrats on the launch!
Stefan Ionescu
@kyrylosilin Thank you! Accuracy depends on the complexity of the image: the bot can't always infer details such as location or the larger context around the image (e.g a person from this year's Olympics) so you might need to add details in the Discord command. The end result will be a mix of the details you provide in the command/prompt and what the bot sees as well. As for plans beyond Discord: I'd like to get to 1K people in the server before I ship a webapp. That might change in the next couple weeks depending on feedback I get until then.

The idea of generating songs from images and videos is really innovative. It’s awesome that you can customize the details and mood of the music to match what’s in your media.

Hey Stefan, sounds cool n all but why limit it to just 10 songs per hour if it's free, feels like you're holding back, any plans to let people make more songs without waiting? Also, you think you could add an option for different languages or accents to the songs?
Stefan Ionescu
@aeranovaceo it's so that I keep costs manageable until I get my first 100 users. I can easily scale the service if people ask for it. I'm working on adding Korean and Japanese. Is there a specific language you'd like to see?
