You Can Now Create Short-Form Videos On Backdrop Video content is an integral part of discovery on any social platform, and now you can create and share short-form videos of your favourite moments at your favourite places on the Backdrop app! At Backdrop’s core, we are a location discovery and social networking app dedicated to helping you find and share beautiful places worldwide. A lot of our early features focused on optimising the discovery part of our mission, but in the past year, we’ve introduced more features that highlight the social networking element — like Social Feed, Group & Public Collections. Now, we are back with our most social-forward feature yet: Moments and the beta version is officially live. Videos of you and your friends at your favourite park? Yes. Videos of the delicious menu at your favourite restaurant? Definitely! Add all your favourite moments to Backdrop. In addition to this new feature, we’ve also added extra key details about the backdrops you choose to visit — Black-owned, LGBTQ+ friendly, woman-owned, remote work friendly and more. We love that these extra details will empower our users to make decisions quickly on whatever adventure they decide to have. And also support marginalised communities that are close to their heart. We aren’t done innovating at Backdrop. Expect many more exciting updates and features in the coming months. 📝 Things To Do Update your app and upload your first moment on the Backdrop app. If you are yet to download the app you can do so here: https://backdrop.onelink.me/Lc1X... ❤️ Feedback We'd love to hear from you about this product or if you have any questions. We'd love to answer them. 🙏 Thanks

@timi_ajiboye VERY visually appealing interface and easy navigation! However, there are some minor issues in terms of "user experience": - whenever I type any location in the search field, the "typing process" becomes frustrating, as TYPING IN any letter takes more than a second (*iOS, latest specs, no issues with other apps). Additionally, what are the incentives to engage new users besides nowadays "common" features, i.e. short videos, photo sharing (backdrops) ? These can be done with ease on social giants like Instagram or TikTok, etc. Anyways, congratulations on the launch! 🥳

@petr_ash thanks for the feedback - we’ll take a look at that search field bug! As for your question, the unique selling point of Backdrop is that it’s specifically for curating/finding places (either as you travel or as you explore your surroundings). Other social giants are for everything and as such, have multiple barriers in the way of those specifically looking for cute places for dinner or a boutique hotel etc.

@timi_ajiboye thanks for the answer! However, the essence of my question is: how Backdrop is planning to "encourage" users to share content specifically on the platform ? Example - I have tried searching the term "restaurants in Ottawa (Canada)" and got zero results. I am now required to search elsewhere, and found plenty using Google Maps, or with plenty of photo/video content on (e.g.) Instagram. Therefore, as a Backdrop user I am not motivated to use SEARCH on the platform, as I now know that I could find more relative results elsewhere. How would you approach such an issue ?
Timi Ajiboye
@petr_ash In two ways 1. Backdrop search will eventually respond with more results - including those you'd get from Google. 2. I also think it's important that Backdrop will have the best looking pictures of the best looking places - which isn't something Google has. As for Instagram, it isn't tailored specifically for finding places, as I said earlier. Backdrop will be the best place to search for beautiful places, unencumbered by other kinds of search results + with high quality images & videos.

Short form video content is going to take over. Great timing for a useful product.
