Athena is a community-curated repository of 🔥 learning resources to help you learn anything.

The best way to learn on the Internet is to have the best learning resources recommended to you by people who are already experts. If you know experts, that’s great. If you don’t, curated collections like Athena are the next best thing.

Thanks for hunting Jack! Athena is a community-curated repository of 🔥 learning resources to help you learn anything. We found it really hard to self-learn with Google and YouTube because you constantly have to sort through a ton of ads and news articles. So we spent a few hundred hours hand-curating the best learning resources we’ve found all over the Internet (on topics ranging from startups to hydraulics to morality). We put the ~25k links into spreadsheets (https://docs.google.com/spreadsh...) and labeled all of the links as blogs, courses, podcasts, lectures, videos, etc. We used this internally for a while and found it pretty useful, but to make it better we decided to build a real UI and a crawler that scrapes link metadata to make it easier to search through. While we’ve managed to build up a pretty good collection ourselves, we think the best way for us to make this really useful is to open it up as a community project. Anyone can contribute to the repository through our Github (https://github.com/AthenaAI/comm...) or through our Typeform (https://athena-ai.typeform.com/t...). We filter all contributions to ensure quality. When someone’s contribution gets added to the collection, we add their names to our contributor wall (https://www.athena.cool/#/contri...). We hope this project can: 1. help self-learners learn more, quicker 2. help grow the collection into something more refined and comprehensive (which supports 1.) This project is still rough and WIP (mvp af), but we’re refining it more and more everyday. All feedback is greatly appreciated! 🙏

@juhaszhenderson Is this website down? SSL broken + domain not renewed

I’ve been looking for something like this and ran across Athena a few weeks ago and have been learning from this. Keep up the good work! I'm looking forward to more content

Would be really cool to have a weekly or monthly newsletter with what was added during that week/month. Awesome work!

@dandancrisan Thanks! We actually have a newsletter now. Working on integrating it with our most recent release of Athena, but the plan is to take our favorite submissions and send them every week. Here's the link: https://goo.gl/vWu4Fk

It's great to see a massive list of resources for learning, but I would love to see the ability to drill down through the categories as I click them.

Pros:

The list in insanely long

Cons:

The 'Blogs' category seems to be all about crypto and the categories are too vague

Really great concept. I've had this exact problem and I've thought about it before. I think the secret sauce here is going to be making it more than just a library. I think searching and sorting by traditional categories ( subject, media type) makes it like every other database. I think giving users the capacity to upvote and then search and sort based on most upvoted+catagory makes finding the "greatest" resource on a topic possible. So its like product hunt/Reddit plus a library. I think that would really make it magical. Think of the hours spent looking and browsing for great learning resources on a specific topic

@ben_rohr Thanks for the feedback! We've actually already started building out a simple voting system to make user curation less of a hassle! (You can see what it will look like in the mockups above.) We'll have it shipped by next week hopefully. 🙂

This I think - could truly be the next big thing! It's like taking the best power of Amazon & Google, and combining the two into a Super Powered Search Engine. The engines ability to drastically cut out spam and curate content is truly amazing. There is just so much opportunity & potential, especially in the education round - which gets me excited. I think it's truly a project to watch!

Pros:

Powerful. Simple. Streamlined.

Cons:

None
