Surprised they haven't been talked about more as of late. The idea is huge and if they can pull it off it could mean a huge shift in how open source projects are created/maintained.
As it is now, the best open source projects generally come out of big organizations that have the time and energy to give away high quality code for free. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this, but I think there's a lot of value locked away in engineers that would rather work at a smaller company. Those engineers tend to rarely have enough free bandwidth to give back as much as they'd like, and Assembly could change that entire dynamic.
