So... Trello?
Campbell Macdonald
@dshan It would seem so.
Dustin Moskovitz
@cambel @dshan With one key difference: Trello *only* does boards. http://www.forbes.com/sites/alex...
Derek Shanahan
@moskov Fair point, and was just saying as much to a friend. cc @cambel
Campbell Macdonald
@moskov glad to see you acknowledge this. I suppose I find it a bit disheartening that this is the most important update/feature for you at the moment. @dshan
Dustin Moskovitz
@cambel @dshan actually, performance is the most important update, but this is the one that was ready to be released today. A lot of our customers want to organize visually, so this was still a very important feature for us.
Will Mauro
Is there a way to export your Trello boards and import everything into Asana boards?! @moskov
Lauren L Perfors
@billymauro @moskov Oh that would've saved me HOURS this week.... I just switched back from Trello to Asana after seeing the boards release.
Rami Habal
I think this is a killer feature, and I've been waiting for it. IMHO it is distinctive from trello, notion and others (maybe even the jira's of the world) because it fits into a broader, more flexible project management system that works ... had given feedback on this feature anonymously so glad they are listening.
Eric Poindessault
Congrats team, I've been waiting for this for years! So far it looks like a better Trello to me, however for our existing tasks I would love to be able to switch from a list to a board display, both views would be useful on the same project.
Ravi Vyas
Incase anyone is searching for a video:
Kind of bummed that boards and switched to lists, both are needed.
Jackie Bavaro
@ravivyas84 We're building this soon. As a workaround in the meantime, you can create a new board project, then select all the tasks in the list project and add them to the board https://asana.com/guide/help/tas... . All changes made to these tasks will be reflected in both your board and list projects.
Ricardo Polo
@jackie_bavaro @ravivyas84 estimated time for this?
Daniel Scherrer
So, will #Trello buy a one-page ad in the New York times now...
Kori Handy
I herd about a really cool app (product) coming soon in the task/work space, they are doing next level stuff that I'm sure Asana will copy asap when they see it.
Steven H
@koridhandy tell me more?
Oliver Dumoulin
@moskov excited to move my team over to Asana from Trello, this was a big selling point!
AryaV
I was so excited when I heard of this; I thought it was going to allow viewing an asana project as both as a tasklist and as a board. * Board for standups and planning meetings * Tasklists for actually getting shit done But, alas, Asana makes you choose one, boards or lists, and its not easy to switch views easily
Jackie Bavaro
@aryav We're building this soon. As a workaround in the meantime, you can create a new board project, then select all the tasks in the list project and add them to the board https://asana.com/guide/help/tas... . All changes made to these tasks will be reflected in both your board and list projects.

@jackie_bavaro @aryav Link doesn't work, and can't figure out how to do this...
Derek Shanahan
@jackie_bavaro @aryav I also can't figure out why Board isn't an option when making a new project. Is this a paid-only feature?
Matt Durr
@dshan @jackie_bavaro @aryav It's not available to all accounts yet. Oddly, not even all workspaces within an account have access — 2 out of 3 workspaces within my account can add a board, the other doesn't even show it.
Matt Durr
@dshan @jackie_bavaro @aryav Here's the correct link on copying tasks — https://asana.com/guide/help/tas... Unfortunately, it looks like you can only copy ONE at a time, which is essentially worthless for converting a large project to a board.
Will Wright
@moskov — Brilliant update! I do agree with most here though, where a project has to be able to be seen in a list or board view (sections become columns of course). Another thing I miss with the board view, is the adding up of story points in the task titles for estimating sprints, as lists have. It would be awesome if the story points added up to a total displayed ater the column title!
Matt Durr
@williamwright @moskov This is what I thought the update would be. Alas, I'll likely wait to use Boards until it's more tightly integrated with projects. Not really useful as a separately managed entity.
@Bernardamus
It looks like a response to the recent success of Pipefy app , right?
Lauren Ulmer
@mat_stevens @scottcheng can you apply this view to "My Tasks?"
Nathan Sudds
@lauren_e_ulmer @mat_stevens @scottcheng I was wondering about converting a task type project to a board. It would be pretty great if you could flip between views and not have to choose between them. But what I did was setup a board and add the tasks to the new Board based project so you can get the best of both worlds. Even better your board can contain tasks from multiple projects this way if you wanted. It would be interesting if the My Tasks view could be shown using the Board format so all your tasks could be moved through a workflow from all projects.
Siobhan O'Rorke
@nathansudds The switching between views thing is something we've actually been working on for a while... so far we can switch between a list, kanban, calendar & spreadsheet. We're working on mindmaps & Gantt now too :) What other types of views do you think would be valuable?
Dustin Moskovitz
@nathansudds @lauren_e_ulmer @mat_stevens @scottcheng I'm also excited about this... I actually wrote a little cron job to sync them up continuously. Hopefully we'll make it real one day :)
Mitchell Porter
@moskov @nathansudds @lauren_e_ulmer @mat_stevens @scottcheng nothing to add just wanted to say I love how you're being open about the tech side eg. mention of cron + previous mention of using elasticsearch.
Ricardo Polo
@siororke @nathansudds any estimated time for this?
Bruno
A way to change the layout of a current project? I mean to convert a list view to a board view?
Jackie Bavaro

@jackie_bavaro @bibapeluwap That link is broken - here's the correct one https://asana.com/guide/help/tas...
adarsh muthappa
Love it!

Finally, now my team can actually just have everything in one place. We tried MeisterTask, Trello in conjunction with Asana. But, this is much better now!
Julien Andrieu
@moskov 3 questions for you: 1. How do you compare yourself with Atlassian Jira? I personally use their Kamban or Scrum board and I like it 2. I use slack as well. What I like is the ability to have a direct chat so you can discuss things quickly with someone. But the problem is that you are loosing track of what was told about a specific project task at some point (or you need to search it). Would be great I think to have a kind of Slack discussion within Asana, so you can discuss task in real time with your team (I know there is an integration but If I remember correctly, it was not that convenient). 3. I would like to contact in private you about something else. How can I do that?
HEADGEAR
so far so good, but be warned there's no going back if you try and move a list into boards
Jackie Bavaro
@headgeario We're building this soon. HEADGEAR
that's exactly what I did do @jackie_bavaro. Now there's no going back to the List View. It's alright, but like @p01ds mentioned it'd be nice to switch between the 2 views/modes. You could use Sections in the list to define columns and then Shift+click to select more than one item in a column.
Jorge Gallego
i will like to put my task in a board look, is this gonna be possible??

Guys who want to try a new product from us which will be launched in alpha soon, there is a limited alpha invite. http://apiclo.com a great product from us and we will be happy to hear your feedback and also implement them to improve the product.

Trello, watch out!

@giacomolaw Looks like Casey Newton agrees: http://www.theverge.com/2016/11/... :D
