Apple Maps on the web is now available in public beta, allowing users around the world to access Maps directly from their browser. Find local businesses, get place recommendations, view maps and get driving directions.
This is a huge move for Apple and for Apple search products generally.
Users no longer need to be in the Apple ecosystem to access Apple Maps, which should, eventually, be a boon to Apple Business Connect as well.
And for developers, "including those using MapKit JS", they can "link out to Maps on the web, so their users can get driving directions, see detailed place information, and more."
As an Apple user, I'm not surprised by this, but it does provide another option for users on other platforms.
However, I'm skeptical about whether the web version will be sufficient for daily use.
Honestly, Google Map has a super deep moat. My bookmarks. Reviews. Those two alone will make the decision to move to Apple Maps super hard. But it's always good to see another player in the web map space.
This is really good for consumers, some competition over Google’s monopoly. I wonder if this could be a step in the direction of going back to the good old days we could embed maps on a website without racking up insane costs.
maps is doing amazing things these days with abilities to:
- upload personal photos to a listing
- add a personal note to a listing
- rate a listing thumbs up/down
- report mistakes in the listing
- take ownership of a listing! apple business connect! now accessible without having to be inside apple ecosystem!
i thought this would be an awesome workaround for my Maps uses cases ("research while in active navigation"), but browser access is blocked on iOS. :/
bravo guys.
How awesome is it to have Apple Maps on the web? It's not that big of a deal right now but I can see this eating some of Google Maps market share. I only use Apple Maps on my phone so I can see how this could be useful on the web as I can create pins on my computer of places I want to go and visit them on my phone.
Wow, this is a game changer! Major props to the team for bringing Apple Maps to the web! Can't wait to see how this benefits local businesses and developers. It's gonna be cool to explore all the new features right from the browser. Hopefully, this means even more integration and user-friendly tools for everyone. Excited for the future of mapping!

Apple Maps is now online! You can use it without an Apple phone. Find places, get directions, and explore on your computer. It's still being tested, so expect some changes.
This is a fantastic addition! Apple Maps on the web will definitely make things easier for users. I have a question Will it support all the same features as the mobile app in the future?
