So many great tools coming for Sketch designers! This looks like a possible competitor to Principle or Haiku... from a team w/ a great track record in the Sketch ecosystem (Auto-Layout, Launchpad).

@chrismessina Thanks for hunting, Chris!

Seems fun but I canโ€™t think of any use cases where I would use this professionally. Seems like itโ€™s more for dribbble posts?
Avishay Cohen
@tony_murphy it would be great for Dribbble indeed, but also for animated banners in your marketing emails or landing pages, small website tweaks, loaders, etc. We use gifs all the time in landing pages, and a lot of Launchpad users also does :)
Or Arbel
@tony_murphy Once you create a timeline animation, how you export it can be in many ways. Although GIF is the first one available, there will be many other ways in the future. *wink wink* :)

Hi Product Hunters ๐Ÿ‘‹ Our goal at Anima is to empower designers with powerful visual tools. Amongst our products you can find Auto-Layout for Sketch and Launchpad for Sketch. With Timeline, we are aiming to empower designers to create beautiful animations with ease. Here are some key features: ๐Ÿ’Ž It's a plugin that works seamlessly inside Sketch. ๐Ÿ–ฑ You can add keyframes, then drag & drop, resize, rotate, etc to animate ๐Ÿ”ท The timeline allows you control the exact flow of timing & curves. ๐Ÿ“น Export as GIF or Video to embed in Websites, Mobile apps, Newsletters, Banners and more. ๐Ÿ“ Your animations are stored in the Sketch file, allowing you to easily maintain it / redesign animated layer, etc. We'd appreciate your support by backing it on the Pre-Sale ($39 now instead of $79 later): https://timeline.animaapp.com Feel free to AMA!

Looks promising indeed. How about easing? It seems that all the animations are linear. Would love to see the good old ease-in-out-bounce ;)
Avishay Cohen
Thanks @nicostam :) The short video doesn't show it but you have ease-in, ease-out, in-out & linear to begin with :)

Look, I love the concept and want to try it. TRY it, but there's no actual trial at least 7 days or 48 hours to see if it's the right fit for me. I want to support you guys as I love Autolayout, but I already have to pay for Flinto and Principle, let me at least see if I should add it to my set of prototyping tools. As far as I can tell from the demos on the page it's great if you work on kid apps, that feels rushed... Why not give everyone a chance to try it and feature some more varied types of work to market the product? If I don't like it, do I get a refund or refunds are made only if the product doesn't release? I am happy to pay if you have a money back guarantee at least for the first 7 or 30 days.
Avishay Cohen
Hey @gabriel_dorin ๐Ÿ˜€ Thanks for the feedback! You're right, it's hard to purchase a product without trying it. The reason we don't release it just yet is because it's not fully baked, and we don't want you to have half the experience. To complete the development we need more man power and more funds. So we're offering the community half the price today, and a full product in March. That's crowd funding - opportunity (Having such a product + 50% off price) in exchange for risk (In case it wasn't exactly what you had in mind). If you're familiar with our Launchpad & Auto-Layout, you know that we're improving all the time with the feedback loop of the kickass design community. Once the we'll launch officially (March), we'll also give trials. So I hope you'd back us now, but you're also welcome to get a trial after the official release, and then decide if you want to purchase it.
Avishay Cohen
@nelsonsoares haha no problem, we'll be happy to have you then :)
Sylvain Maretto
One thing bothers me from the video, can you animate vectors or is it just rasterised assets manipulation ?
Avishay Cohen
@sylvainmaretto on the first drop you wouldn't be able to animate vectors, but like on our previous products (Launchpad & Auto-Layout), we'll go where feedback takes us :)
Davidvb - Ld. UI/UX
Hi Arbel and Avishay! Congrats on another fascinating product! You got my backing! I do think that ultimately this product's success depends on supporting vector Input & Output. That, and keeping the UI very accessible as it evolves. But you guys are lean enough to pick up on this, I'm sure! I do have to say though โ€” while fully understanding the time and effort needed to make something great โ€” as a designer I'm getting really tired of getting hit with subscriptions left & right. I honestly wonder how long the "Subscription Model" for small-medium companies can survive in this industry. Individual designers/people in general, cannot simply keep subscribing for everything that is actually worth having in our toolbox. This can have negative effects on the creative process, and even people's careers, just by not being able to afford the tools they feel or know they need to have available in their creative toolbox, to do a job as good as possible (on several levels). The Music software industry might have the answer though. Some smaller audio software companies as well as (the awesome) splice.com, offer an interest free lease-to-own model that let's people use and pay for professional software in small monthly terms until they paid for the whole thing, at which point they own it forever. But when someone has a tough month, goes on vacation, or gets sick and can't work for some time, they can simply skip paying that month. โ€” The software then won't run until they continue paying where left off, but this is still a much friendlier and more scalable model. This also allows people who otherwise would never have paid to use your product, now can. Which could be a considerable amount of people. โ€” Think about it!
Avishay Cohen
@davidvb Thank you for having faith in us and for the deep thoughts! About the pricing model - That's a very interesting idea, we'll think it through. To begin with, we've taken a lesson from Sketch: Lifetime license + 1 Year of updates will allow you to skip more than a few months if you don't have to use latest version :) Regarding vectors - We do get it, and there are 3 main options here: HTML + CSS Animations, SVG Animations, or Lottie. While we discuss it internally, we'd love to feel the community needs: Facebook Poll: https://www.facebook.com/groups/... Twitter Poll: https://twitter.com/AnimaApp/sta...

Johannes Zimmer

Is there an way to export the Data with Bodymovin or make a .ai File?

Pros:

Great Idea, hope it will work

Cons:

Donยดt know yet, cause not launched

Jesse Wallace
This sounds great, and I'm interested to see the execution. However, why a subscription model for this? It, unfortunately, comes off as unnecessary or cash-grabby for something that is ultimately a plugin.
Or Arbel
@jesse_wallace Hi Jesse! Sorry for the confusion, the pricing model is the same as Sketch. It's an annual license. Meaning 1 year of updates. After that you can renew or just use the version you have. We will clarify this on our website.

Seems like another great product from the Anima team, keep up the good work guys!
